Out of interest
« on: July 15, 2007, 08:50:53 am »
How many of you have or are likely to end up settling in your first town of choice? It is looking like we may have to settle elsewhere first and then move later as there seem to be few work opportuniteis in Whangarei for us now that we are almost ready to go. There were so many when we were not able to take them up.  :tickedoff:

You might just find you like Whangarei.

I moved to Rotorua for work, not my 1st or even 10th choice but I am really enjoying it here. You never know...

Long term I will probably move to Well or Chch.

Well at the moment we plan on arriving and staying in Auckland, purely for work reasons. We plan to travel around and scout out the rest of the country and possibly move elsewhere if we find a place we really like.

We started off in Auckland because of hubby's job. We looked around a lot during that year and a half. We were also lucky enough to have gone on the Targa rally, which travels around the NI, which gave us a chance to see many towns.
We fell in love with Chch, just through the pic's on the internet and it has lived up to all our expectations and more O0

most people seem to go to Auckland first, then find their feet and move on...

From what I hear and from people I talk to the likelywood of ou settling from day one in the place you want to is rather unlikely. So be prepared to move a bit before you settle.

apparently one of the things to watch out for is landlords who rent out property to you just until they have a buyer and then force them to leave. This has happened to them twice already..so beware

My friend is renting a property that is on the market. I keep my horses there too, so we are having to look around for alternative grazing. Not easy in winter, but the price is high so don't think it will sell quickly :-\ Holding thumbs anyway O0

Hope it works out Linda

Our first choice was Auckland due to the fact that most jobs are here. We have not travelled to any other towns yet so maybe once we start travelling around we might fall in love with another town and decide to settle there...who knows... :)
We are actually planning on travelling to Rotorua this weekend to see the attractions before Anton starts work on Monday
