NEW NEW NEW !

All immigrants to NZ will now be fingerprinted ,iris scanned and photographed on entry and they can detain you 96 hours if they wish. This is just to protect borders from wrong elements entering the country and committing crimes here etc. No big deal really,just be prepared....

I just posted the news article over HERE! if you want to read about it.

Basically, only New Zealanders (citizens) will have their photo'staken at the borders to verify their identity.

The Immigration Bill would also:

- Simplify the visa system;

- Overhaul detention powers;

- Give some customs officials the power to search and detain people without a warrant for 96 hours;

- Bring New Zealand into line with international conventions and treaties;

- Allow for more information sharing between Immigration and other departments.

I just read your article Rhodan. They just spoke about in on NZTV. NZ citizens will be photographed/face scanned but immigrants will be finger printed,iris scanned,photographed.
Don't know when this will be implemented. (certain people can be detained for 96 hours to be deported)
Don't know how,when this will be implemented.
Details are a bit sketchy so far.

Ok cool, let us know if you hear anymore, the article only mentions taking photo's of citizens. No  dates mentioned as you say.  :confused:

OK will do. I am sure it is aimed at keeping NZ a safe destination.  :clap:

They recently had some middle eastern guy going around robbing banks with a demand note. (Tellers here are trained to hand you money if you slip them a note asking for some)
Although they had his face on every camera in each bank they still battled to identify him.
Now they will probably be able to match faces of people on holiday here to their database.
Just a guess.....don't know the exact motivation for the changes.  :confused:

I think it is good, especially as child kidnapping (madeleine) is a reality and you know they would not be able to get your child out the country.

It's the kidnapping I fear the most...... let them do what they must to keep NZ safe!

Speaking of the safest country...... I almost killed myself laughing today.

My sister is very anti SA. She stays in Auckland. Everytime something of mine gets stolen she goes into long speeches on how no one will ever, ever steal anything in NZ. Just not possible. So safe.....

Last night they stole her boat.  :whistle:

I decided not to tell hubby - he will immidiately cancell the NZ plans... ;)

They did leave it outside Nolan. They were warned that people do steal the engins, so they chained that to the boat and just incase, the boat to the trailer. This morning they are all three gone... :2funny:

Sorry - I should not be laughing.  :P. Lucky the insurance covers it all. The neighbours are  very shocked. "You can take a man's wife and home, BUT HIS BOAT!!!???" :o

Go to bed Nolan - you should be bright, cheery and awake tomorrow. We will be waiting online...

Goodnight (and good morning NZ'ers)

Hi,

Newbie to this forum and NZ, been here 4 months now.
At the moment I do regret moving.
I feel NZ is about 30 years behind the times.
This laidback lifestyle is killing me and my two teenage kids slowly.
I'm not impressed with the schooling system as I do feel that the schooling in South Africa is by far more advanced. My kids are in a NZ private school, thinking they will get a better education, not so. SA government school is way better than NZ.
The teachers in SA have more control over the class, the kids have respect for one another and especally the teachers.
My kids are so board at school, they even finish their homework in class.

Sorry to sound negative, but I'm not impressed,

Well, if they finish their homework in class, then so much more time for them to play in the afternoons without having to look over their shoulder to see if someone won't harm them :clap: :D :devil2:
