A warning - if you have outstanding fines in SA they can be picked up here and that will delay you getting your NZ lic.
Kind regards,

Edwin

Well with the mess that ART (think that what they are called) are making with the fines that you want to pay, I don't know how we will overcome this problem    :tickedoff:

My husband got a fine of R500.00 and paid it........... we got a new fine from these people indicating that his fine is now R1000.00 because we did not pay!! According to the newspapers they don't know that to do with the money that they receive from people that pay for their fines because their admin system is up to  :censored:

F/M relax about the licenses.

a friend of mine here in NZ had a whole pile of unpaid SA fines and he walked out with his licenses without any problem at all, and some of them were really old ones.

You walk into an AA, fill in a form, produce your SA license, do an eye test, sign a "screen" for your signature on your card, pay your money and leave.  10 days later it arrives in the post.

Easy peasy.

Luke sold a car 4 years ago that the new guy never transfered.

He kept getting fines for it, so he must have many outstanding fines
and he just got his license, just like Mandy says.

Easy peasy and no problems, so don't stress.  O0

I saw info on the licence in another post, I made a mess and my reply disappeared, now I can't find that one so I will try my question here.

Somebody mentioned that your licence should be valid for 2 years to convert it? is this true? Mine will expire Dec2010 and my problem is that I do not have time to go for my renewal before we leave and it takes 6-12 weeks in SA before you get your card. Does this meant that I will have to re-do my licence!! -- please don't say that!      As if I don't have enough stress right now! My husband did his renewal and he will be collecting his by 13/08/2010.

I arrived Oct 2007 and my license expired Feb 2008. I got pulled over after Feb and there was no problem at all. I don't think that is a problem. In any case my friend, the Monday after you arrived we go to the AA, hand in your SA license and within an half an hour you will have your new NZ license. Yes it is that easy.

And as far as I know, you can drive with you SA license for 1 year.

Troy did not believe the guys on the forum and insisted we spend R250.00 each to get our international liscence and it took us less the 10 min to get NZ ones and they did not even look at our international ones.
But in his defence he was going to hire a car from the airport as soon as we landed so he would have needed it then.
