Just spoke to my eldest sister who lives in Auckland (North Shore).
She said when they first arrived 8 years ago, her hubby was earning $46 000 which she says is around average, or even slightly above.  They had a container shipped over, so didn't need to buy anything.  They rented for 5 years.  And basically just managed through each month (3 teenagers), but were ok, because they didn't need anything more.  Over the years her husband did get a few raises, and now is in his third job, and earning more than double his starting salary in NZ.  They now own a house in North Shore, of around $400 000, (3 bedr + study), but she said, if her kids (now in their 20's and earning), weren't paying board and lodging, she didn't think they'd be able to make it.
So this is just to give you an idea....   of course, living in other areas outside of Auckland  all become more affordable, the further south you go.
She also mentioned that the rooms are small - most around 2x3m or even 2x2  :heeha: Their master has the bed in it, with about 2 feet (.75 meters) walking space around it.
lekker sweet as, y'all

I also want to go for a smallholding or lifstyle cluster, and we see some of them cost the same as houses in the city.
