I found out yesterday that my sister, who said she wouldn't even think of leaving SA for the next five years, has changed her mind. They now plan to be in NZ in Jan 2008 providing one of them finds a job by then.

So now I won't be all alone over there

You're right Nolan. Unfortunately we have to wait 3 years from when we get PR to get my parents out. They're retired so no hope of going over before then except on holiday.

Mandy I'm a bit

I've been working on my sister too. She is the same as your sister was. She says she will only leave or think of leaving in 4 years time

She used her daughter as an excuse and said she wants her to finish matric, but I got Brad to help me explain that matric is worth anything here, but she still says......in 4 years

I'm really happy for you though

Linda I know how you feel about your sister, and Mandy I understand how you must be feeling about your parents.

My sister was exactly the same, 'This is my country and I won't leave' now she has a baby and we left, she has been making enquiries to go to Australia. She is hoping to be able to take my folks with her.

While I am hoping that my brother will start the process of sponsoring them, next year Nov he could start the process, as he will have had PR for 2 1/2 years by then.

My mum would rather be in a cooler climate than in Queensland where it is sooo hot.

My sister is just so scared of change and she doesn't want to let go of what she has, which I can understand, but what if it all get taken away, and how traumatised she she need to be to agree to move, that's what make me so

with her.

Unfortunately we only notice the change when we leave for a while and come back - then reality strikes!
Linda, I don't have any advice. Her husband has wanted to leave SA for many years and she wouldn't budge. Then we phoned and told her we were going. This reawoke his need to get out too. Next thing I know they're going too. Not sure what changed her mind.

I think most of us are scared of change. The unfamiliar and leaving our comfort zones can be very scary for some.

Heather you are right about people being scared of change, but as Nolan says, look how much change this country has gone through.

Being scared of change is one thing, but living in South Africa, and fearing for your life and having to live like this ... come on ! Now that is SCARY !
