South Africans in Christchurch - wow! so many!
« on: September 30, 2007, 08:35:12 am »
We (Bev and myself) have been pleasantly surprised at the number of South Africans we have been coming across in our daily life in Christchurch. We've been even more surprised at the 'newness' of some of them. We would have thought that we are the new arrivals - but no!

Anyway we attended a SINZASA braai (www.sinzasa.org.nz - the 'official', non electronic organization for SA's in South Island) today at the Groynes in Christchurch. It was really great.  We even had a biltong competition! For those of you in South Island make an effort to join SINZASA - they are trying to arrange more get togethers. What was interesting was the fact that there are 9000 South Africans in Christchurch. Sh!t that's enough to take over! :-) Even more interesting was the fact that we were NOT the newest, not by a mile. The newest arrivals have been here 5 days! It seems the flood gates are opening....

I have to make a choice between Auckland and Christchurch. I love Auckland and have never been to CHCH. What is better bout CHCH compared with AKL? Any advice??

I'v only been here since August 10th, by my family have been here for 5 and 6 years.  Auckland seems to be alot like the Cape, many rainy days, although it is warmer.  If you like the more metropolitan way of life (Jhb), then apparently thats the place to be.  Personally, Chch is a good place, not just b'cos my family is here, there are plenty SA'ns here as said, and its not "mind blowing" in the sense of the rat race.  Perhaps you should check it out first b4 making your final decision - good luck man!

I'M BAAAAAACCCCCCKKKKKK!!!!!!!

Chch is best  O0
Most people seem to give the same reasons why they prefer Chch to Auckland and I'm yet to find a person that has been to Chch and not prefered it to Auckland O0
I would be here all day if I started on why I love Chch :smitten:

The weather, the people, the scenery, the vibe.................. :smitten:

I've just moved to a little farm 4 km's out of Rangiora (Fernside) and I'm now even more in love with this place :smitten:

Here are some pic's of the fields and my view across the road O0

Welcome back

Your new place looks great!
We will have to visit when we are up that side.  I am thinking of visiting my school friend who lives in Chch, so it would have to be a long weekend.

Happy

How big is the farm ?

What are you going to "farm" with ?

Did it cost you an arm and a leg ?

I understand property is muucho expensive over there

Oh and congrats !! It must be awesome living on a farm without fear of being "nationalised"!
