Wilna, I think it's important that your hubby stands by you and supports you as the mom in authority at home, and that you support him as the ultimate head of home.  If your hubby says, "you listen to her, or else", they will soon learn that you are the authority and to be obeyed.  I do think that it will eventually go much easier once they don't have that once-a-month disruption of authority.  And consistancy... oi, I wish I was as consistant as I should be.  'Cos I know that is what really helps them know the boundaries...  All the best Wilna!

Thanks all! I often feel that raising kids is a hostage negotiation - and I'm the hostage! LOL!! Hubby is supportive but the kids are not stupid. As soon as Dad is out the door they start with the nonsense... The boy (aged 12) is normally the instigator. The poor kids have lots of issues and I don't really blame him. He basically moved in with us 3 years ago (sister followed shortly after) as the mom had enough of his attitude's and she wanted more time for her hectic social life. I would also be a bit difficult if my mom had no time for me. It's sad actually. He's a sweet kid most of the time, the rest of the time you want to    him! Come to think of it all kids are like that I suppose!!!
