Newbie looking to NZ
« on: October 30, 2007, 10:16:07 am »
Hi All  :)

I am a sub-editor from Hilton in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands and am planning to move to NZ with hubby and two kids - Jamie (16 months) and Kayla (5). Just begun process and I am going to try to get a job offer first. I see some people are going to NZ to work (getting work permit) and then doing application from there. My job is not on any skills shortage list (I think it falls under future growth area) - could I also take this route if I get a job offer??

Hi and welcome Kathy!

If your field is not on the skills shortage list, then getting a job offer first is definitely the way to go.  If you have an offer, it gives you more points towards getting PR.  Getting a job offer can be done by looking for work online, applying and hopefully getting a telephonic or Skype interview.  But sometimes you do need to come over to NZ for the job interviews.  There are many topics here on that subject, so take your time and read through the site, you'll find many questions already answered.  But don't be shy to ask though!  We love chatting away here!  ;)

Thank you all for the kind welcome - I have just begun the process and it is all a bit confusing to me ... but I have been reading a lot on this site, and asking questions, and many things have been clarified. I just beg everyone' patience if I ask the obvious ....

Kathy
