Medical benefits
« on: December 07, 2007, 03:05:00 pm »
Someone told my FIL that her brother is on his way to NZ.  For him to qualify for any medical benefits he now has to pay an amount in arrears as he did not pay anything to date. Citizens have all the benefits as they have been paying taxes all their lives.

This is the first time that I've heard about this.

Any comments?

Unless he has some condition that they are making him pay for....

I have never heard of this. If you are on a WP of more than 2 year or PR then you are entitled to the same as Kiwis.

If you have any kind of accident (break a leg, car crash, walk into a pole etc, regardless of the visa you are on) it is free with ACC. They take the money from petrol tax.

It doesn't sound right to me either - see if you can find out some more details for us, then I can say if it is correct or not.

Find out who the "They" are that are requiring the backpayments.   We arrived here 4 months ago on PR.  Jan was hospitalized a month ago for a week.  We paid $0.00 for that!
So I really think it sounds rather fishy that this guy is being required to do arrears payments...  I'm suspecting an agent?  or perhaps an employer that is out to milk him?
lekker sweet as, y'all

I know 3 people that have been paid from ACC while off work and none of them are citizens.
They have not had topay anything.

OK I've spoken to the lady and got all the info.

She is actually on her way to OZ. At the age of 55 she will not qualify to enter OZ in any category other than the Family Category.  Luckily most of her children is there already, so she can apply.

She was told that she will have to go onto a waiting list. Apparantly it can take as long as 10 years to get of this waiting list. Or she can make a payment of 30 000 - 40 000 Aus dollars to "buy" her way into the country.

She will have PR and qualify for all benefits associated with PR
