Hoping that you all had a really great Christmas and wishing you all the best for 2007.

I have been here for three weeks and boy are these Kiwis party animals. It has been an endless round of parties and I am told that New year will be even better. I rarely get to bed before 2 am so have no clue about New Year. Probably all night! It may have something to do with the fact that it does not get dark until 10 pm. It really messes with your head and lets you believe that it is not late at all. :idiot2:

I phoned my sister in Hastings this afternoon.  She said her family woke up at 4am, and packed a picnic then went to the beach.  There they waited to watch the sun rise (it rises first for NZ!).  When it was up, they each prayed for each other.  Then because it was actually cold, they went back to the car, broke bread, and then had breakfast of croissants, cheese, fruit salad and yoghurt.  When I phoned, the kids were all busy setting up their calendars with the birthdays for the year.  I like the way they celebrated the new year.  I think I will start that tradition myself even here in the USA.

It has just gone midnight here   and there are fireworks all around.  the rest of my family are asleep.

Happy New Year to all of you!!

We had all our close friends and family here to celebrate our, hopefully, last Xmas & New Year in SA. It was really great.
