Hi from Scottburgh SA
« on: January 16, 2008, 10:42:25 PM »
Hi Everyone  :-)

Im currently still in SA with my two kiddies (daughter 12 and son 7) and yes, Im a single Mommy.

Ive been avidly trying to get into Oz and been applying for jobs since October '07 but had no response so far...not even a st#ff you...would have been a reply at least.
Reason for Oz you might ask....well I have quite a few family friends that have immigrated over to Brisbane and my brother, wife and 2 children are immigrating to Oz in May this year (she is a nursing sister).

So, getting so sick of Eskom and the blackouts, and the crime getting unbearable especially here on the South Coast, I applied for jobs in NZ beginning of Jan. I have positive feedback already.

Apart from that Im an avid horse rider....going to have to sell my horse  :'( :'( and I love hiking and love my reptiles of which there are no snakes in NZ and only one lizard, (going to have to sell my snake & bearded dragon too  :'( )

Welcome Leeannvh

Oz is more difficult to get into, that is why a lot of people were using NZ as a stepping stone in to OZ.  Once they had their PR, been here for 3 years they would hop the ditch to OZ and get in with few problems.  Now the NZ Immigration Department have cottoned on to what was happening and have extended the time for having PR (Permanent Residence) to 5 years.  Meaning that you have to live in NZ  with PR for 5 years before immigrating to OZ. At least that is what I have been told.

There are lots of members who can give you any information you require on any area of interest.  Horse riding is big in NZ.  It would cost too much to bring your horse over as well, let alone the trauma of the move on the horse.

Once again welcome and  :gl:

Welcome Leeanvh. There is a lot of banter about Oz vs NZ but when all is said and done it does not matter as long as it is out of here!!  :gl:

Hi Leeann, welcome to the family

It is a pity that you have had no reponse from the Ozzies as you obviously have a good support base there already, but fear not there are options :

1) As with NZ, it is not that easy to get a job while you are sitting in SA, so you usually have to make a trip there. It is easier to get a job in NZ than in Oz, but the pay is less :'( On the up side NZ has, IMHO, more to offer lifestyle wise than Oz.
2) Have you been to the SAAustralia site to chat over there? They may be able to give you some pointers on how to get that job in Oz that you want?
3) You could use NZ as a stepping stone to Oz, but as Heather said, it is gonna take a long time to go that route (time to get PR + 5 years), but then again if you have NZ PR and are living there it becomes easier to look for work in Oz as you are a lot closer O0

If you do decide to go to NZ, don't worry, you already have lots of SA Going To NZ family there  :smitten:

Welcome leeaanvh O0 and  :gl: sure you will find NZ easier to get into.  Once you start the ball rolling it is a long process, but at least you have found this site to vent frustrations and share experiences! ;D

Hello Leeannvh, and as the others have said - a great big welcome  and good luck  :gl: with your plans. I'm sure the right thing will come round for you -whether in NZ or Oz.

I love reptiles as well, but having no real "icky", venomous or very dangerous kreepy crawlies is a plus point on my husband's list!

Thanx for the warm welcome everyone!!!

I feel like part of the family already!

Yes, Im registered on saaustralia already, they referred me to this website when I said I was possibly coming right with a job in Whangarei.

Friends of my Moms just landed in NZ a week ago and settling just outside Hamilton. Theyre so stoked. Her hubby is going for a couple more interviews today. They tried out Aukland but it was too big and busy for them. Coming from Joeys originally and then settling in Scottburgh, they didnt want the whole city life again.

I just cannot wait to get myself out of this country. I dont feel any patriotism anymore.

Well....hopefully I will be over there sooner than later

Hi Leeannvh

My Mom stayed near Scottbur at Mtwalume. I am now in Whangarei. If you liked the south coast you will LOVE Whangarei. It is  :heeha:

I have been here two weeks and I am loving each moment!

Im soooo excited!!! But also dont want to get my hopes up too much.

The next couple of days until Sunday evening is going to be the longest wait in my entire life!!!

I had a great teleconference interview with a Company in Whangarei last night.....lasted from 11pm to 12pm. My ear was on fire afterwards.

My nerves before the interview were killing me and my IBS flared up

Things sound positive and the Employment Agent sent me an e-mail afterwards to say that the interview went really well according to him and that there was a "good rapport established all round".

Well now its the waiting game
