Business for sale and immigration
« on: February 13, 2008, 03:27:37 PM »
Howdy,

I am browsing thru the business for sale in NZ on the net, however, I find plenty of owners selling because they are leaving the country. We talk a lot about going there, but never about leaving there.

Is this just a sales pitch, or is there a lot of people leaving the country?

Is salary the only reason?
Are the NZ people not threatened by us, or maybe they know something we don't..........

please check on www.trademe.co.nz undr business for sale. There are more than what is for sale in SA I think, and this is not such a big country.

I also think that immigration is a growing trend worldwide as the earth becomes "smaller". It is sad that a lot of Kiwis are leaving their country but I am more glad that we have the opportunity to leave our country for theirs. O0

Not just the Kiwi's as Nolan said it has become a global village, the Brits are getting out too.

But I think the Brits are leaving for different reasons than the kiwi's.

Almost every Kiwi here has a close family member in Aust. The salaries are higher - but more important the YOUTH are the ones going with open student bursaries. But I do not think it is because something is Wrong in NZ.... and I have not met one Kiwi that has something bad to say about SAffers coming in - and believe me I ask everyone....  >:D they all agree that SA brings better medical staff and trade people that they need - they seem very adult and informed about this...  O0

Didi, that is great to hear. You always wonder if the Kiwi's completely accept all these strangers in their land!

The people we've spoken to that leave, say it's because of salaries. My hubby is one of the highest paid mechanic's ( I better say, mechatronic's, or I'll be in trouble ;)) in NZ :)

The younger people say they just want to see more of the world......fair enough  :)

ah... but what the media doesn't tell you is about the Kiwis that come back home... after a year or two or ten.  They go to Oz because of the salaries yes... but they always hanker for home, and once they've had their "OE" (Overseas Experience), they often come back... At least the older ones do.
I also think the young'uns want to get their OZ quals, so they will be more acceptable worldwide.
I've heard a lot of talk about "getting your OE".  I think it's something of them becoming aware that they are on this island and don't know much about the rest of the world, so they go for their "OE" which is usually Oz, because of the employment agreement between OZ and NZ, and then come back with a better world view.

But they're not leaving because there's anything "wrong" with this country though... as far as I know

I also doubt that there is anything "wrong" other than the salaries. South Africans have been doing it for years. Only now we want to get out due to problems. Fine by me. I am more than willing to swop lower salaries for freedom from crime, corruption and the rest, and freedom to live my life in a relaxed country.
