Govt to make immigration more difficult
« on: February 14, 2008, 12:51:20 pm »
 :help:
Heard on radio this morning that our beloved govt   :uglystupid2: has decided that because of the "mass drainage" out of the country, they want put a stop to it.
Unfortunately I only heard the last bit, but then a collegue told me she heard the same thing on a different station.
Appearantly if all your papers are in order, they can't do much to stop you, (yet) however, the youngsters that go on a gap year must now have proof of at least R120k  (up from R30k) in their bank accounts b4 being allowed to leave..

Anyone has any info on this?  How could this affect all the LSD guys?

You guys know how it is - you join this forum all new and shy and then you get to know the few first basic questions and you get to welcoming other newbies and helping them out and as time go by you feel like you've  always been here.... I was on this forum for only two or three weeks (since last year December sometime) when I suddenly realised that I'm actually spending more time welcoming newcomers than I was reading the older posts! I said to my DH there and then that if the rate that this site gets interest and new members is anything to go by, we better hurry up as there soon would be serious restrictions on South Africans going out of SA or going into other countries. Seems I was right...

Please let us know if anyone has any more on this though, would be very interesting to follow.

This is not good news.  If you have a passport you need to duck now!

Trying to find out a bit more on this "making it more difficult" thing and found the following intersting articles on the "integrity and credibilty" of the South African Passport as seen by Brittain these days:

Ag no - I really need to get my family out still......
I'm so thankfull to be here. So very very thankfull! :)

One would think that the govt has the brain power to do this right - offering the skilled workers something to stay for would be much more effective than trying to force them to stay? They think like communists.  ::) Oh sorry - I forgot, they are communists.

Thanx for the linx Minette!  My immediate thoughts - "Oh ***"!!  :knuppel2: :tickedoff:

My second thought - "How the heck do we remove the blinkers from family & friends"?  Can they not see what is happening, especially with what happened to our Neighbour ZimBOBwe?  :'(

Just attended a gala dinner this wednesday and ALL the speakers were talking about how great the future in SA is going to be, and how we all should stay put, as things will only get better... and all the while they were dishing out generators as gifts! :idiot2: :-X
