How Much Has It Cost U?
« on: March 16, 2008, 08:55:35 am »
Hi all

How much approx. from submitting EOI to landing in NZ has this whole process cost you?

Those that went "cowboy" style how much from when you decided to leave to gettinging your first job in NZ has it cost you?

Oh and i've seen two prices for submitting EOI, not sure which one is correct, how much does it cost to start this first step?

Thanks
Bev

Cowboy style.  Not at EOI stage yet.  Around about, plus minus 200 000.

Bevmac, I'm too afraid to look at the figures closely, but it cost a bundle and a bit! We came over and only started earning dollars in 3 months time. To start by travelling a bit, then renting a house and getting the furniture here, buying cars and staying alive, going for medicals and paying for all kinds of visas;  we must have spent way in excess of what Badprop mentioned. This doesn't come cheap!  :'(

BevMac, it took us just under a year to get approval in principle.  We arent waiting for anything, we have permanent residence.  We leave in August.

A ruff idea, I am too scared to do the actual costs.

50 for plane 2 adults 2 kids
75 for container and still counting as tax is going to be wopped ontop
120 for 2 cars.

$1400 rent first 2 week.
$ 3000 rent first month(bond and other stuff included)

then I figured out we used 9 tanks of petrol the first 6 weeks at about $70 a shot
$630

Haven't worked out the food and take aways yet, but around $100 per week.
This week we doing the medicals and wp.

I haven't worked this back to rands yet.  I don't think I want to calculate anymore.  I am feeling kinda sick right now. :o

Our other cost so far has been the container.  It cost us R42 000.  Plane tickets will be in the region of R18 000 for 2 adults one way.

Friends of ours have offered us to stay at their place and pay half the rent while they are gone on holiday and we can use their car so we will be getting off a little easier in the beginning.  Planning to buy a car for roughly $10 000 for starters and get a rental in Auckland somewhere probably close to the CBD.  Its very scary adding up all the costs but I recon we DONT convert it all back to Rands because we will die of heart failure!

Thanks very much for the offer Johan.  Will chat to hubby but I have a feeling he would want to see the car personally - especially since we will have a month in which to get a car.  Plenty of time to look around. But thanks so much for offering!!  O0
