Unabridged or Vault Certificates?
« on: March 19, 2008, 09:38:56 am »
Hi everyone,

What is the difference between an Unabridged Marriage Certificate and a Vault Certificate?
And, do we really need both to emigrate? I have just looked at the marriage certificate issued when we were married - it doesnt say "Unabridged". BUT, cant we just use this certificate? Or wont our marriage be recognised under NZ law.... can anyone shed some light on this matter?

Thanks,
Janet

Hi Janet
This has been discussed on a previous thread, but NZIS does ask for an Unabridged Marrage certificate as well as an unabridged birth certificate.  Some people have used their abridged certificate and be fine but I would get the unabridged ones so that there are no delays.

not too sure what the difference is , but you will need to apply for your unabridged marriage certificate

Thanks!
Then I  think we will get the Unabridged Marriage Cert. Not sure what the Vault Cert is, but it doesnt sound like NZIS needs it  :)

Applied for mine yesterday...a vault copy is a certified copy of the original register. What you need is an unabridged certificate which is for overseas purposes. :gl:
