hi, and welcome. i am lucky that i have been twice to nz and we are now moving (ITA angels pls smile on us) mid may. so not up and moving without knowing where we are going. but i have to say, when i first went there (2001) i got off the plane and thought "i was born in the wrong country... i should have been born in nz! i might even like rugby  ;)!!" everything was just so "me" and when i left after 3 weeks i was really sad. i had planned to go to taiwan and left the following month, and the funny thing was (apart from my then boyfriend - now hubby) i didn't miss sa, i missed nz!!! who knew 6 years later our little family would be moving over. we have just come back now in dec from a holiday and my hubby felt exactly the same way (well, except that he is an ardent sharks and springbok fan  :))... he was ready to get back on the plane when we arrived at or thambo!! so don't stress about not having gone there... you will prob love it!

Thanks all for your support. I am feeling so much better already about our move. It is really great to have so many great people to chat to because unfortunately Saturn_Moon was correct in saying that family will have nasty things to say.
Good luck Paula with the ITA. Holding thumbs!

Hi Lisa
Also never been. But we are applying and hope to leave by the end of the year. (all going well :D)
men are strange creature..my husband wouldn't even TALK about leaving despite much pleading....and then over night he decides..that's it we need to go! As a woman I can relate to your angst. Read as much as you can...research schools, prices of stuff, houses, weather...EVERYTHING. Good or bad. It will help to ease your anxiety and give you more control.  :gl:

Hi Lisa

My wife and I had a similar experience. We were fortunate to visit  Auckland in 2005 for work purposes, never thought of immigrating before, but since our visit the idea got stuck in the back of our minds. The reality only sunk in after the birth of our son (now 9 months) and we decided to get the wheel rolling!!!!!!!!!!!!

make the move, before there is no more space here, and the rand is worthless.I was also in Joberg, and sometimes think about certain places, then you start to miss SA .
But my future was not bright for a white male.
expect good things
