Hi

Might have been asked before but why have you decided on NZ and not Aus?
Any special reason? Pro vs Cons?

We had originally looked at Aus and then someone mentioned NZ. After researching NZ more in depth we liked the fact that they have quite a small population, there landscapes are just magnificent. NZ offers a lot of outdoor activities which my husband would like to pursue and they are very family orientated. We also liked the laid back lifestyle. But besides all that after looking at NZ we just fell in love. We have never been there are we are only going on what is on the net but we feel like we would be more at home there.

You are right Zutima.  This topic has been discussed on a number of occations.  Use the search facility and search Aus,  there are various reasons.   As for mine, I am too old to go to Aus ;)

My husband said he couldn't face living with the Australian landscape. He's a mountain man. After researching, I agreed with him. The landscape is varied - from sunshine, sea to snow. The population numbers appealed and so did the slow lifestyle with an emphasis on family. We also liked the fact that the New Zealanders are less materialistic.

Shandy I am 100% with your husband, I would only consider Canada or Switzerland as alternatives.  In Switzerland it will be REALLY be a big pain to get along with the people, but I REALLY love those mountains...

Well ZuTiMa, Stormer supporter or not, if you know what you want, why don't you just go for it?
a Guy once told me two things that I believe to be true. The first thing was: "Man live by choice only", meaning you live because you want to and also you have to live with the choices you make in life. If your not sure about something, do your research, everyone of us have come here for different reasons and you have to decide on your own, we cannot tell you what to do. The second thing he told me was: you have 2 ears and 1 mouth." Meaning - listen twice as much as you talk. Cheers,  :D , SAKB.

SAKB  :)

I know what I want and ussually get what I want  ;) did not ask anyone to tell me what to do  ;D

No harm in getting other peoples opinion / experiences etc (research), like someone else have said before on this forum get as much info by surfing net, searching this forum for previous posts and talking to people who have done it.

"You can steal with you eyes and ears from others"

Maybe your friend saying could be improved to "you have 2 ears, 2 eyes and 1 mouth" Listen - Observe and Ask

Cheers Hannes

Hi Zutima.  We decided NZ because we have family there.  We had enough point for Australia and will need to get a job to get into NZ but it was important for us to be close to family.  Should we fail our plans might have to change but for now we are hopeful.   It is very interesting to see why other people make the decisions they make and many other people have asked this question so it looks like we are all curious about it.   :gl: with your decision and your research.  I have find this site and most of the people on it invaluable!

We decided on NZ as opposed to Oz because we liked the idea of the island lifestyle and it was easier to get into NZ too O0

I have been doing a lot of thinking about this question and I think Nolan's answer about sums it up.

Also not so many people, family is valued - its not just about work, and because Australia has never really appealed to me. My OH was there in OZ on holidays many years ago and he doesn't fancy it and he also prefers NZ because it is cooler there.

Hi saturn,  :)

I have had my eye on NZ for some time now and yes without ever being there I believe NZ to be the better choice also.... maybe its because I'm from Cape Town    /\/''''''''''\/\   us C/Tonians are well known for our relaxed lifestyle  :boat: compared to Jburg, Pretoria etc...

Its also good to hear / read  ;) of other Ppl experiences that have done the Sa to Nz.

ZuTiMA, My hubby and me were for a 2 weeks LSD trip to Aus. We were 2 weeks back in S.A and got a job offer in NZ... Thats why we go to NZ.  As Nolan said, it's easier to get into NZ too.  The company my husband is going to work for have also offices in Aus. Who knows, if we don't like it in NZ we could go to Aus. BUT I hope and believe we will live in NZ happy and ever after ;D

Hi and welcome ZuTiMa, and hello everyone else.  We also decided on NZ because of it being family orientated, once we had researched the country, we absolutely fell in love.  My DH left yesterday, arrived at 12:30 (SA time) today, so feeling very lost at the moment.  Our 2 boys and I are going to join him in 1 December.  I am trying very hard to stay focussed on the end goal - still a little hard though.  I am sure it will get better!!!  Anyway... when are you guys thinking of going over? What do you and your wife do?  Sorry if you have already discussed this - its been rather hectic here the last 2 weeks, and I havent been on the sight much.
