Dental costs in NZ
« on: May 16, 2008, 04:42:41 pm »
Hi all,

Just curious as to dental costs in NZ compared to SA?  Is it very expensive to go to the dentist?

Went to dentist today and i nearly fainted when i received his quote for dental work (crowns) that has to be done.

Thanks,
Trish

yip, dental can be pricy but shop around until you find a cheaper dentist.

I had a check up and clean (about 40 mins) and it was about $90 or so. More with fillings etc.

I am sure there must be a dentist plan or something you can buy from the med schemes in NZ.

Thanks Brad.
I had exactly the same today, checkup(which included some xrays) and clean and it came to        R 1095.

The crowns he quoted me are about 3x the price of the above, per crown :o

I think for kids dentists are free or subsidized. I know the dental bus came to our school. It was definitely free for the kids to get fillings etc.

I know some of the  :smart: will help me out but I think dental for kids up to 15/16 is free or very cheap but dentel for grownups are very expensive. Know of a guy that flew to Hongkong for dental work and apparently it is still cheaper if you do it that way flights included. Cheers, SAKB
