Thinking of leaving to NZ...is it the right place to go?
« on: July 07, 2008, 09:07:56 am »
Hi, we are thinking seriously of moving to NZ, just wanted to know how other SA's have found the change and move there?  More positive than negative I hope.

Hi Chan

We are also in Durban and recently joined this forum.  This really is a wonderful place to get loads and loads of information.  You definitely will need lots of time to read everything.  We have spent almost every evening on this forum reading, reading and reading.  And ask your questions, these folks are wonderful and will always help with an answer or share their experiences.

We have made a definite decision to leave SA (as sad as it is...) and have started the selling off phase and have recently put our townhouse, business and 2 motorbikes for sale.  So now it is a waiting game.  We are hoping to be in NZ in  6 months time (fingers crossed!!) and will probably have to go the LSS (Look, See and Stay) way.

So, good luck with whatever you decide.

Hi and welcome

The only advice I can give other than the obvious read read read is to do as much research as possible. Not only on this forum but any source available to you. We have made the move and love it. Others again find that things are not as expected and cannot cope with it. Yes there are a lot of negative things about New Zealand with crime, drugs etc. This is not Utopia but I think that when you weigh it up it is still a better life style for your kids. Pin point what is important to you and make sure that you know exactly what you are letting yourself in for.

This is not meant to deter you in any way. I am simply pointing out that many people come here with the idea that this is heaven and have a massive wake up call when things go slightly pear shaped. If you have done your research and know what to expect you are far better equipped to deal with it and make it for the long haul
