Wannabees from Pta
« on: July 03, 2008, 02:52:27 pm »
Hi, myself and a friend (buddy support) has just started the process but still has a lot of questions.
Job descriptions seem to be different - does anyone know what a 'medical technologist' is called in NZ.
We are booked for the expo at Gallagher estates - pse hold thumbs.
If successfull in getting jobs, how fast to get a work visa: Worst case, best case, usually?

Thanks

Welcome to the family guys

If you have all your docs together and you get a job offer, then it can take around 2-4 weeks to process WP

Hi Guys, I'm also from PTA - now from Whangarei NZ.

:gl: with the process - and the job expo - hope you get a job!

I'm not sure about how long a work visa takes. 2-6 weeks if you have ALL the info/ paperwork ready.

I recommend that you join (or if you get the job you quickly join) the buddy mig section on the site so you get the step for step process and online help with your application?

Keep us updated with how you doing?

See yous in Joburg for the expo - if we can find the place from Durban.
We also put a lot of hope on the expo for a job offer.
We are STILL waiting for the Pre assessment - The waiting is now longer than a month and half altough the NZQA website says 20 working days. - The only hurdle left to submit EOI.

Hi there. At last, a fellow med tech who wants to go to NZ

In NZ we are called 'Medical Laboratory Technicians' if you have the ND Med Tech (which I have) or if you have your B.Tech or NHD you are then a 'Medical Laboratory Scientist'. However, I can apply to be a scientist, as I have the experience necessary ie. molecular technology and almost 18 years of experience.

What speciality are you in? I'm a virologist - quite a busy field if you work in sub-Saharan Africa.

A colleague of mine went over to NZ cowboy-style 3 weeks ago and she got a job offer last week in Auckland. And it's in virology, which as you know is a very small speciality.

I did my ND Info Tech though UNISA, so I hope to get a job in IT, but if I have to work in a lab then I will.

:gl: and maybe see you there.
