Weather
« on: September 16, 2008, 12:51:56 PM »
Hi all

For those already in NZ - does the weather get to you at all? i mean we live in hot-as-hell Nelspruit. It is 36C here today and we arent even in Summer yet. I wont mind cooler weather though but my hubby loves SA weather.

I read Auckland is average 25C Summer. Is it like Cape Town weather or Pretoria that side? (on average)

Thanks!  :)

Well I've lived in George and Cape Town.

I have a friend living in Wellington, and she says the weather in NZ is allot like George.

Hope this gives you an indication.

In general I think NZ is much more wetter and cooler than SA, and boy am I looking forward to that!  I loved the weather in George, accept Feb when the Bergwinds blew hot and dry....

NZ is cooler and wetter.

At the moment if we are lucky enough to get 19C everyone thinks its warm, and it really does feel warm. In Auckland you will almost never get a temp over 30C. 28C would be HOT!!!!

the difference is that we have a long winter -late April to October or later when the temps stay below 20C. I could never live in SAs heat again. It was horrible. If weather is an issue and then Australia is a better option. NZ does not have SA weather (in terms of being warm).

Back in SA we lived in North West so we were use to dry winters and wee bit of rain during the summers. We came to NZ in the middle of the winter  and it was pouring every single day and it was very cold.  They say though it was unusual weather this winter.  Now during spring the temps are much warmer, the cold days are the days that  the southerlies blow.  Our temp is (for most of the days) around 15 degrees but that 15 feels warmer somehow here than 15 back in Potch.
We never liked the hot weather in SA so to us this is great.  :)

I agree with the posts above about the temp here being different.  When it's 15 in SA we're huddled in warm clothes.  Here 15 is quite hot.  Not sure why this is but the past few days in Auckland the temp has been 18 and it's been fairly warm.  The wind has a bit of a sneaky bite to it but short sleeves all round.

The winter here in Ack has been very wet - I believe the worst in a long time.  But it's been enjoyable and different to what we're used to.  I'm not complaining - I love the rain.

We arrived in January and the weather was absolutely wonderful.  Shorts/t-shirt weather for a good couple of months.

I wouldn't swop this for anything - hated the heat of SA.

Anyway, you should see the nice shopping centre that's been build in Poth.  Lots of everything!!!

Yes, we saw the mall, it's great but the day I went there to close accounts I apparently just missed an armed robbery!   Wanneer kom julle oor?

Seems we've now got a possibility of moving to Wellington rather than the ever popular Auckland. I must say, the WINDY city scares me a bit - from some videos I've seen on YouTube.... but I'll face the wind head-on if I can live peacefully and happily.

Wellington is a wonderful vibrant cosmopolitan city to live in and so very beautiful.  :smitten:  We enjoy every moment.  The wind is not that bad, a Kiwi who has been to PE said the wind there was much worse than here.  You get your bad windy hair days - like yesterday, but you just learn to live with it and even enjoy it.  :gl: to you minette.

I lived in JHB before coming to NZ.  We lived in Dunedin for 17 months the weather there is really a lot cooler than Christchurch.  We moved to Chch about 2 1/2 months ago, and have found that the weather here is much warmer than in Dunedin.
Compared to JHB, I would think that the summer temperatures are about the Winter temps in JHB.  We have had some really nice weather here over the past few days.  Temps up to 20°C.  And we are loving it.

My brother lives in Wellington, the moved there from CT.  He says that Wellington is on the same lattitude as CT and that the weather is much the same, the winds and all.  They absolutely love it there.

Go to http://www.metservice.co.nz/default/index.php for a good look at what the weather is doing.

Yes itbjcm  I did hear of the armed robbery.  My husband was on he's way back from Johannesburg, and told me.

I think it was robber taking advantage of the "newness" of it all thinking people would not be so watchfull with a new place.

I only saw it about a week or so ago, and everything was fine then...thank goodness..

If our house sells we will be coming over in the first half of next year.  There is currently round about 20 houses on sale here at the moment.

Some people want to move to Klerksdorp and there is a few people that's taken a job with Senwes.
