Hi,

I see a lot of people talk about Auckland weather

When you start living here there is even a debate about Auckland South and Auckland North' weather

I believe the weather in the North Shore is better than in Auckland South

But then again, I also believe in aliens  >:D

apparently it is warmer on the Shore, but probably only by 0.5C so you wouldnt notice.

South Auckland is closer to the Waikato where they get quite severe frosts and so there is cooler air there. The Shore is so close to the warm Pacific that it keeps everything mild.

Today is another SUNNY day. Its wonderful. People already out and about at 7.22am enjoying the weather. It is 17C in Auckland today with sun and little wind. My family in SA cannot understand why I think this is warm but it is. I will wear shorts and t-shirt all day. After the wet, cold and windy winter 17C feels like summer. It really is spectacular out there today. If I wasnt so busy today I would get a ferry out to one of the Gulf islands and just enjoy the stunning scenery of this great Queen City. I really do love Auckland.......am I gushing? ::) 8) :smitten:

I have found that the winter here (just South of Hamilton) wasn't nearly as cold as I expected but much wetter! We had a couple of weeks of heavy frost and then just rain and more rain. Anyway now its definitely spring and the trees are flowering and looking beautiful. :)

Wellington is a great city to live in but the winters are long and cold and it rains most of the time. What makes it worse is that towards the end of winter you get one nice weather day then 4 really cold and rainy days then a niceish day so you get all excited that summer is here then it gets freezing again and rainy for a few days and so on. Very depressing!!

If you dont like wet and cold weather then Ausy might be a better bet......or come to NZ in summer. Having said that I would never leave Wellington, it has to be the most scenic city around and has lots of job opportunities.

Sorry, have to put my 2 cents worth in here...

The weather SUX here!!! That is one downfall to NZ but let me tell you that the positives by far outweight the negatives!!

Its 17 degree's here tonight here in Whangarei and Im freezing.

But all the houses are kitted out for it, most of them have fireplaces, insulation in the wall's etc. so you dont feel it that much when youre indoors.

If you like rain, like me, then you'll LOVE New Zealand.

Summer is nice and warm but winter is very wet. Be realistic. London, UK gets about 650mm of rain per year. Auckland gets 1350mm. (Joburg 750mm, Durban 1000mm)

Since we arrived 3 weeks ago, the weather has been fine. Overcast, a bit of rain but mostly sunshine, so we are lucky so far. What I can say is that when the sun shines you can feel it - sunblock required or you are gonna braai. But then there is a definate Spring wind (as in SA) in the air which chills things down again. If the last 3 weeks is anything to go by, we are in for a great summer.

Last year summer nearly caused a drought down here and some say it will be the same if not worse this year ???

I love the canterbury summers, hot and dry ;) This last winter was a bit strange but no way the norm. We had 3 lots of snow and plenty of rain, but what got me was how long winter was this year :-\

Hopefully we've seen the last of winter now and can look forward to the joy of the sunshine for the next few months.
We arrived end Jan this year and for those first two months the weather was absolutely glorious. We had sunshine everyday and it was hot - sunblock required!!  You burn very easy here.

Hi,

The "locals" tell me that if it does not rain in Auckland for more than 2 weeks, they call it DROUGHT  :uglystupid2:

I just love the weather over on the Shore  :D

Recently we had a garden service come in to just help sort out our garden.  The guy that came to do it (just one guy for two days), was from the UK.  I asked him why he came to NZ (we all know why Saffers come, but wanted to know why leave the first world strong Pound to come here), and his answer?  The weather!  He says the UK weather sucks, and it's great here in NZ, esp Hamilton!

it depends but in Auckland it comes in showers. 10 mins of rain, then dry, sunny, then rain, then sun, cloud, rain.....and so it goes on. Very very unpredictable. Sometimes we have continual rain but its mostly showers.

Jip,

If there is one job I don't want it is a weather man in Auckland!

Possible showers today with possible sunshine in between with possible mixtures of both.  :2funny:
