the odd rumble every now and again......nothing like a JHB thunderstorm.....usually just a little rumble.....hardly ever notice any lightning.

Unpredictable, that's the weather all right, here in Wellington too.  Here's no thunderstorms and it rarely rain very hard so we go out and do what we would on any sunny day.  If you're going to sit in your house and wait for the weather to "get better", well, you're going to miss out on much fun.  We are planning and getting ready for our first tramping adventure in NZ, weather wise all we can do is cater for all four seasons, step out and enjoy, whatever.  ;)

We lived in Durban for many years, I have the cold and was really worried if I would cope. Since we arrived in winter, I think it is safe to say that it really is not that bad! It is cooler and it does not bother me as much as I though, I suppose it is because we are so much more relaxed here and we feel so safe and happy that the weather is a minor factor for us! Having said that, the summer sun is now getting a bit on the eina side! Hubby got badly sun burnt on Monday (public holiday!) when he was out fishing from a Kayak all morning! 8) :boat:

We have noticed that the hottest time of the day, for us in Chch, is around 3pm.  We always have to wear a sun hat and put sun block on to prevent the burning.  Seems we are closer to the hole in the Ozone here in NZ.

Do you hear the thunder in NZ?

I've been in Auckland for 6 months now
Saw lightning twice (in one night)
and hear thunder about 3 times over 6 months

Ideal weather for Capetonians  >:D

? ? Gum Boots en Reenjas ? ?

excuse the english but Feb, March is often the best weather of the year and can be warm. But this is NZ.....you never know....it may rain but I dont think it will be cold.

I dont think you will need gumboots unless you are out on the farm somewhere.

I think people in SA exaggerate about the weather. You get used to it very quickly.

if you use www.wunderground.com it will show you what the weather was like on a certain day in the last few years. give you an idea.

Nope....Feb/Mar is still Summer weather and youre fine with a jacket or two and maybe a drymac

Winter eish-baba!!!
But still no tsunami!!!

The rain here is never really that bad...its just consistent rain all the time in Winter....just rains & rains & rains and doesnt stop but not heavy rain...just drizzles

Now in Summer as well, just drizzles for a day or two then nothing for a week

Lekker bru

Bev46, I live in Chch and the weather has been fantastic and is really warm at the moment.  You can watch the weather at this site
www.metservice.co.nz
Chch was supposed to have rain over the weekend and today, so far only a few drops on Sunday night. You will be fine if you follow leeannvh's advice
