No more pronetro or Mieliemeel
« on: October 14, 2008, 10:48:37 pm »
Guess you guys have heared the bad news? No more importing of Pronetro or Mieliemeel allowed. I am studying the legislation for invasive control to get ready for an interview and ran onto the amended legislation on the internet - looks like it is active from 1 October.

Sometimes importers find a way around this (loophole) but I can not see how we are going to get around this one - may mean no more goodies for poor us....  :'(

Anyone interested welcome to PM me for the a copy of the legislation electronic

:-\ My liefie gaan nie hiervan hou nie? wat nou met pap en sous Vrydae aande???  :'(

Ja Jan, it is only new imports being stopped - there is warehouses full of stock still around.

Alta genetically altered grain/ corn products are dangerous as it can "cross breed" with indigenous species and it can carry deseases to make the local plants "sick"

I am still trying to find the more detailed explanation as tpo why specifically Mieliemeel. Will let you know if I do find the answer.

the guys at our SA shop say you can still get, the packaging just has to say where it was manufactured. So they have to have stickers made to say "Product of South Africa". All to do with the "Buy Kiwi" campaign

I know this post was a year ago, but we get Pronutro in our New World in Nelson.  It is in a special International shelf, with the Mielie Meal.

Not sure about the Kreemy Meal porridge as the SA shop in Christchurch says they can't bring it in because it has additivies, but Pronuntro is full of additives (vitamins ) and the SA shop in Auckland still stocks it.

Anyone know what is going on since the first post ?

you get all of that, the shops were required to put a loose sticker on at one stage to say that the product comes from South Africa along with a few other details - the Kiwis are understandably concerned about buying overseas products as buying local helps keep the money in the country.
