Private Hospitals in Auckland or Wellington for Birth
« on: December 15, 2008, 05:09:03 pm »
Hi

Just doing some investigation here for when we arrive.

My wife has a preference for an elective c-section with an obstetrician. I know this is not covered by the free pregnancy care there. Are there any private hospitals in Auckland and/or Wellington that are the standard of the Mediclinics here in SA that do elective c-sections?

Also does anyone now the approximate cost of this?

Thanks
Chris

I have struggled to find info on this - it does not seem to be a big option in NZ.  On one website they said $3000-$4000 but that is the only price range I have ever seen.

Maybe try doing a search on the private hospitals in Wellington and Auckland and see which obstetricians have rooms there and try emailing them.

Contact Tanya, she had her baby 3 months ago and went for a c section in Auckland.  Has all the details as she has done all the research in advance.  Pm me if you need her nr.

Good luck.  We had a baby in Feb 2007 and I had a midwife, gave birth naturally at the public hospital and thought the service was great and it was very cost effective.  We only had to pay part of one scan.

I've never investigated private hospitals or C-Sections, but I do believe it will probably be really expensive.
