What would I have done differently?
1 ) Not held onto the house for so long - we lost R150 000 when the property market took a dive
2) not spent so much money in the months leading up to our leaving :idiot2:
3) given away more of my summer clothes that I will never wear again! - boy I freeze in this place  :)
4) spent more time with friends and less at the office - they find fault with your work when you leave no matter how well you try and leave it!
5) Spent quality time with my mother
6) Brought Sipho in the container to mow the lawn  :2funny: :2funny: - we are NOT gardeners!
Life is too short for regrets.

Eish madam, - one thing I DO NOT miss is my THOKO, and her fascination with ironing everything including undies...  :uglystupid2:
Why wait?

Hi Guys
I see this topic died in 2009.  We still in SA trying to get back to NZ.
Is there anybody else that moved to NZ since then???  With more or new TIPS   :help:   I spend about all my free time on this forum looking for tips.

One thing is sure....   I WOULD NEVER HAVE COME HOME TO SA  :idiot2:   if I could do it all over again.  I would have stayed there!

But hay... we can't see into the future now can we! :crazy2:

I would have made this NZ move MANY years ago.......if I had known just how lovely this Country actually is!! Yes, I do realize it is also a major financial burden, but so worth it. I think personally, that coming over say in your mid twenties, early thirties, with little kiddies is the best way to fit in, especially your kids.

But all said and done, we are here, and loving it!

Would be great to have more updates here from those in NZ already and who have not yet posted on this thread - or perhaps want to add to what has already been said.
One tip in the original posts here that I have definitely made a HUGE note about is:  leave set of finger prints for police clearance with a family member in SA.  This is something I sure will do before leaving as we will be coming over on a LTBV and not PR.  Would have to get police clearance when applying for PR.
Medicals Done - 31 Aug 2011
LTBV app sent - 16 Sept 2011
LTBV approved - 10 Feb 2012
Passports sent - 10 Feb 2012
Passports received with visa - 20 Feb 2012
House sold - 25 Feb 2012
Attorney instructed - 08 March 2012

My list of should haves:

1.  Definitely left set of finger prints with family member
2.  Bought 2 years worth of clothing for DD from Woolworths  :'(
3.  For me - stocked up on good underwear and shoes, especially boots
4.  Brought the garden/patio furniture
4.  MADE THE MOVE 5 YEARS AGO

Otherwise I think we did pretty well thanks to all the info I found on this forum in the months before we left as well as from those who messaged me  O0 O0

OK after more than 6 years --
not have such a long extravagant holiday in NZ and saved the money for a house. Man I tell you we enjoyed our 9 month NZ holiday. Luckily that time the exchange rate was better for bringing SA R over then today.
Moved over year way back ... We just love it here so much ...

The rest we did is all ok .. you sort of start all over again and built up a new life with new values and a new outlook. That's called settling in .. this take a few years, and it's the same for every one. You don't just land here, and tomorrow you're a kiwi .. no it take time. Sometime you desperately long back "home". Most of the time you are to busy getting used to do things differently, moaning about this and that .. but all and all after a few years you can sit down and reflect and you realise .. man this was worth it. So all planners .. be strong you'll get there

1.  Would have insisted that the school place our children 1 year back to what they actually did - as we requested when we came over.
2.  Would have brought bedroom furniture i.e. nice set headboard and side tables etc...

Thats about the only thing i would have done diferently.   Funny to see that my last post on this was me trying to get here and now here I am with Residency received this month.  :yippee: :yippee: :yippee:
