« on: January 12, 2009, 07:30:44 pm »

Thanks! :uglystupid2:

No need for tax clearance now.

I came on WorkVisa and didn't need it. O0

I am trying to get the same answer - we are going over on PR.  Don't you need a tax clearance when you apply for a New Zealand tax number?

We have PR and did not have to show our tax clearance for a tax number. The only side we needed the tax clearance was on the SA side because of selling our house.

You don't need tax clearance to apply for IRD number,

you fill out a form, and give them copies of your passport photopage,

and visa, and they have to see the originals as well.

If you are doing an official emigration from SA then you need to do a tax clearance.  We officially emigrated and part of the paper work that the bank needed was a tax clearance.

Only need tax clearance to send mponey out the country (in transfers - not thinking about debit/credit card transfers here), or for emigration, but otherwise not necessary. We still did it as it'll be way easier doing from SA and having it, instead of trying to do it from over here...

That is so right Snoozy.  My brother had endless problems with SARS trying to get things sorted from here....

I would think it will be better to sort out all paper work before you leave. :gl:

You can request a tax clearance (reason:  permanent residence) via the SARS e-filing website. :gl:

Good news, I've applied for my tax clearance certificate (in respect of Good Standing) this morning and received a letter from SARS this afternoon that it has been granted and can be collected at any SARS Revenue Office nationwide.  You just need to bring your ID along.  Now at least if the visa officer might just ask me for it, I have it with me......so I am getting on that plane after all.  Can't believe it was so quick!!!

I'm also confused at the moment

We are going out with a one-way ticket and PR, so I thought we should rather fill out the IT21a form (just to be safe).

...but now, going through everything on the form, I'm starting to get confused and have doubts about filling it out at all.

Apparently you need to submit this form with a MP336, but the thing is we are not applying for a Settling in allowance, we already have an account in NZ (and we had been issued a tax clearance cert. when we transferred money to this account).

Furthermore, what will happen if you specify on this form that you are not going to return to SA? Will SARS inform the bank to freeze your account...we are going to keep open our accounts b'coz we still have a property here that we are going to rent out (and we still have bond payments too).

Do we give SARS details about our annuity and pension funds and submit it together with this form? Obviously the pension fund will only be paid out in two or 3 months after we stopped working, and by then we are not in SA any more.

What will happen if you simply ignore the IT21a form and just tell everyone we are going to work in NZ only temporarily? Or just don't tell anyone we are not returning?  ?
