i said before

but i sent out up to 48 CVs a day.

if you know you are getting 1 interview for ever 20 CVs you send out a week ,   and you need to get at least 1 interview every day ..... you need to send out 140 CVs a week for different jobs.

If you get 1 positive feedback every 10 interviews.. you need to get at least 10 interviews which is 200 CVs.

If you get one job every 10 positive responses..... you get the picture

All i am saying,  sitting on your hands and sending out a CV every 3 days wont cut it.   Not in the current economic situation.

You need volumes,  you need to try every company you hear about....  you need to apply,  follow up,  change your CV based on feedback, be over critical of how you approach these folks, they are different to what we are used too.....

i had 48 different versions(look and feel) on my CV in 6 weeks.. each job I applied for had different covering letters each taylored to the job that i was applying for.

even after all that, i still only got 1 job.. but i only needed 1 job offer to get a WP.. so the effort was enough.

just dont give up.. and dont be to layed back and think you did enough, I felt i could always have done more... days went by without a single phone call.  After that day i sent out those dosens of CVs.. i only got 3 responses that told em no thanx.

i even got one where they told me i was OVER qualified...!!!!!! grrrr,  just give me the job, i dont care if i am bored

Thanks Ronald but not to worry we are not sitting on our hands. We really are hoping to stay in New Zealand so we are trying our damned hardest to make that happen.

My DH has and still is trying various methods but at the end of the day it is up to the employer to decide - all we can do is try our hardest - which we are!

Sorry SM... i just made a general statement, wasnt directed to you,   i dont know how many CVs you are sending out.. I am just saying generally.  Some do send out 3 CVs and expect recruiters to come running... then again, i bet there are some who CAN do that.

besides.  I believe all will be fine.  positive absolute confidence.

;) No worries Ronald. Believe you me, my hubby has sent out over 100 CV and after 3 months is only now getting his first interview with a firm.

So, for all those that have been following the Support Group, my DH and I decided to extend our visitors visa and after 3 months of applying, applying and applying (including cold calls etc) my DH finally has a telephonic interview set up with a firm in Auckland for this afternoon.  :heeha:

Hopefully if all goes well, this thread will get some more life into it, and the ball (which has dust on it now) will start rolling again - we will have things to do like applying for IRD numbers, converting our SA drivers licenses, looking for a place to rent, and FINALLY - last but certainly not least - applying for our EOI!!!

WATCH THIS SPACE!!!  ;)

My hubby didn't get the job (telephonic interview one on the 14th April) but fortunately he had a face-to-face interview with a firm in Auckland this morning - the firm contacted him directly to set up the interview so fortunately no employment agencies to deal with.

Today's interview went extremely well, it was 1 hour and 15 minutes long which I think itself is very good and my DH said that there is a good chance he will go for a follow-up interview next week - he will only be returning tonight so I don't have all the details but hopefully by next week this time he will know whether he has a job from them or not.

Doing so much of this right now

So, 3 months, 3 weeks and 5 days later - my DH finally got a job offer.

Times are tough and it sure takes longer to find work but it is not impossible.

We were fortunate that my DH is on the skills shortage list and that the firm is an accredited employer.

Thanks to our forum friends (you know who you are) for assisting and/or accommodating us. Thanks to everyone else for your words of encouragement and all the prayers and crossing of appendages.

From the first phone call (from the firm) until the job offer took almost 1 month itself. Very stressful but so worth the wait.

I cannot begin to explain how glad I am that we extended our Visitor's Visas and most importantly that we don't have to go back to SA other than on vacation.

So our next step of stress is submitting and getting successful Work Permits and then submitting our Expression of Interest.

We should hopefully be in Auckland mid-June. So it's a pity we will miss the upcoming Auckland meetup but we will sure be at the next one!!!  O0

We can't wait for our next post to update on our progress. Getting a rental home, applying for NZ drivers licenses, applying for IRD numbers the works...  :cloud9:

The ball (covered in cobwebs and dust) can finally start moving again and we look forward to sharing our advertures with the most amazing cyber family one could ever hope for.

Until our next post, take care everyone.  ;)
