...well, it looks like my referees like me, coz I got the offer and accepted it today.  Now we can relax.  We just need to focus on getting a job for my wife now  :gl: She went for an interview on Monday and she should hopefully get feedback from them this coming Monday.

It seems like our IT standards and experience/skills in SA are not up to scratch (compared to NZ). Both my wife and I have more than 5 years+ experience each but they rate us junior to intermediate (in SA we were intermediate to senior) ...and it is quite demotivating. Or the kiwis are just measuring our skills differently or something. In SA we had to be good in all fields of our work, from low-level programming, to front-end development, to DB development and analysis etc. In NZ they really want you to be a uber-specialist in one specific field. Although we both have degrees in IT, the Kiwis are more interested in MS certifications  :idiot2:

...this is just our experience so far. Not sure how other IT people here have experienced it?

Yes they do seem to prefer you to specialise in a particular field.  My hubby was turned down for a Java Team Leader position at the one company a couple of years ago because he doesn't have a formal work title of Java Team Leader and instead was an Oracle Datawarehouse Specialist who has also done extensive DBA work, can work as a Business Analyst, do Software Development, work on C and has worked with Java for 5 years in his different positions.  My logic was if you had somebody who is experienced with the Java, but could also work as DBA and so on, then you have a backup if you suddenly need extra help in another team, but they didn't see it like this and instead took around 6 months before they found somebody to fit their criteria.

Jip, had the same experience with a telephone interview I had. I have a broad knowledge of all the Development areas in my IT field, and 10+ year experience, but was after a second interview dropped because my "programming language is not up to standard", which is absolute  :censored: because, how else will I be an expert in all the fields that depends on the language in the first place ! Quite demotivating, but makes you think more seriously about the "kiwi" CV, where you need to concentrate on the "uber-specialist" area that you apply for !
