SA Drivers License STOLEN in NZ
« on: May 18, 2009, 10:43:19 am »
My wife and I had our wallets stolen while in NZ (in broad daylight in a good part of town) just AFTER we received our work permits but just BEFORE we got converted our SA driver licenses into NZ ones.

Now: How to get the drivers licenses re-issued in SA? Normally you have to get a police affidavit and collect it yourself at the driver license office in SA - but what to do when you're sitting in NZ? I really don't want to do my learners+drivers in NZ all over again.

Any ideas?

Hi DionB

Sorry I can't help you out but just want to say that I am sorry for what happened to you guys.  >:( :( (Thank goodness your passports we at least not stolen).

Where in NZ was this? Have you managed to report it to the police yet? I hope someone will be able to help you guys out soon and that you will come right.

Please let us know how it works out.  :gl2:

Do you not have an international drivers licence? Could you not apply for NZ drivers with that?

susanj- our ITA is going soon and as they want only our original documentation (AAAARRRGGGHHH) obviously they have no concept on how dificult it will be to replace them if they get lost enroute ! I scanned all of them onto my computer then backed up on disks yes plural and put a copy in MIL 's safe.
not that printing a coloured copy will replace but aleast when I have to approach an institution to look them up I will have proof of there exsistance,

What a mission... you can try and contact this person: Samuel Lephoyi Modisane (ModisanS@dot.gov.za) He helped my DH with authenticating his learners license so that transport NZ would take his SA learners as a NZ learners...
The brother was actually efficient and very helpful!!!
