Crime rate is just getting worse
« on: June 24, 2009, 07:56:19 AM »
Hi
I live in Cape Town, Kraaifontein And i stay in a security complex. On Monday my neighbours house got broken into and in broard daylight! and my neighbour accross me had her radio and speakers stolen out of her car Wednesday morning. When the police came over they asked me if i had heard or seen anything and informed me that its the 8th house to be broken into this month. He looked at my house and said that i have to put in burgalar bars cause if my house gets broken into then i mus'nt bother to fill out a report cause he did warn me. Shocked, i told him that thats really bad police service and he repeated himself saying that i was warned. Wow.  :tickedoff:
I was thinking on leaving this country but stopped to look at how beautiful it is, this incident just made me realize that things are getting worse and its not gona get better. :(

I heard things in Kraaifontein were getting a bit rough. Consider moving elsewhere in Cape Town?

Well I haven't experienced any crime for years... There is crime yes, but skipping the country isn't the only solution.

People have different views and opinions though I guess.

I live in Welgemoed and somebody came into my house (still don't know how) and stole a notebook.

No such thing as a safe place in za anymore.

Guess what??? Your burglar just warned you that your house is next.....
Sorry, I know that sounds bad and all, but, some of the biggest criminals in SA are in uniform, and if they don't do the crime, they tell their close friends where to do the crime because they staked out the area already. Sorry, I have seen it happen in SA.
Sorry npronald, if I were you, I would do something about my security, and quick.
As always just my 2c worth. Cheers, SAKB.

It not a matter of if, but when and how bad unfortunately. I am so relieved that all my immediate family are now here, safe and sound

I'm so sorry about your experience.... I am also a victim of crime - FRAUD...  some &^%$@ from"SARS" informed me by e-mail, phone and fax that they mistakenly put money into my account, and that they needed a refund asap otherwise I will face severe penalties.  I waited 7 days and the cheque seemed ok, so I refunded the money yesterday.... R60 000.  Yesterday afternoon the cheque bounced.  I am devastated.  The police and banks are handling the fraud case now but I am SO bitter.  The banks said "how could you be so stupid", but when it actually happens to YOU - its a different matter.

I was also having second thoughts about immigrating to NZ - our beautiful country, the amazing kind people I surround myself with.  but I can't do this anymore.  Welll done Mr. Fraud who is spending MY money right now - you have broken my spirit, and spurred me on to leave.   :tickedoff:

We spent R11 000 on extra security in January this year (additional electric fencing) but I have heard that is you have a palisade at you house in your front yard they use a car jack to bend it open and climb through under the fence! I mean what more do we need to do? This is really getting ridiculous.

Where I stay in Centurion, 4 people were shot last week by burglars or high jackers! An old man was shot while taking out his trash! Another old man was shot close to my parents place while working in the garden, also last week.

My son told me last night that he is so scared that somebody will kill me and my husband because he had a nightmare on Sunday night that somebody shot us and he and his sister had to look after themselves.- I mean really my son is only 10 years old!

The worst thing is that NOTHING is being done about these things, it is just acceptable. It has become the norm. You are thankfull that you are alive if they break into your house.

We would rather leave than become a statistic.

Jennifer, my mother in law's bank card got cloned two weeks ago (that is what the bank said) and they withdrew money and bought stuff to the amount to R20 000 within 2 hours!

Centurion is a major problem. I have friends there as well and they say it's getting out of hand... I never feel safe when I visit my parents in Gauteng in general... :(

frodo and maya (the bee I presume!!  ;) )

We could swap horror stories till we are blue in the face - we don't just hear about crime happening to other people these days - its happening to ourselves now!!!  My folks stay in Springs and nearly retired.  I am so anxious about their well being.  If I could take them with me to NZ I would!!

For children to have such nightmares, I just shake my head in dismay.  My son is 4 and talks about "Totsies" stealing all his toys when he's asleep.  I dont know where he gets it from, we have never put ideas like that in his head... he must have picked up at creche.  Its shocking.

People say "your'e running away" when I say we are immigrating, but I agree with you, rather run away than be a statistic.

R20 000!  your mother in law must be devastated.  I am so sorry.
