New Zealand vs Australia
« on: April 17, 2007, 06:40:21 AM »
Just want to know if anyone has been to Australia before? I've never been to Aus or NZ myself, but from the information I have gathered, NZ seems to be my first option.

I would like to hear from the people who have been at both countries, why they chose NZ above Aus. Most people I have spoken to said they like Aus more than NZ and they also told me that many of the young people in NZ leaves the country for Aus, because NZ is boring and there is't a lot going on in NZ  ???

onix, it all depends on what sort of lifestyle you want :)

We also looked at both and decided to go for NZ because it's easier to get into. We are now so glad we did choose NZ because it's the perfect lifestyle for us, and you just can't compare the beauty of NZ to OZ O0.......and the fact that there are no poisonous critters here

Well onix the fact that you're on a NZ forum should answer your question !  :2funny:

Anyway, jokes aside, I've been looking at the two, and NZ is "easier" for me to get into, so I'll guess I'll just go that route, plus the fact that the weather isn't as hot as Oz, and that it's way more beautiful.  O0

You can always move to Oz after you have your NZ passport though.  :P

NZ easier to get into. Main factor for me BUT if I lived in OZ I would have to live in Tasmaia.

Spent 3 weeks in Sydney a while back and we had at least 5 days over 40C. I hate the heat and could not cope. ALso why I left SA. I love rain and cold. NZ seemed perfect for me! OZ have bad droughts and water shortages and with global warming they have HUGE problems.

NZ is a great place to bring up a family. If you live near a "main centre" then you will always have more than enough to do.

I am more than happy to fly 3 hrs to Oz for 10 days of sun and heat but then I want to come home to sensible weather.

I am also under that impression that NZ is easier to get into.

BTW, you guys say its a 3 hour flight over to AUS, is it expensive for your average new zealander to go over to Aus for a holiday? Where do most New Zealanders go for holiday?

the top overseas holiday destination for Kiwis is the Gold Coast of Australia. There are cheap flights $200+- one way from most major airports to Coolangatta (Gold Coast).  Also many Kiwis go to Fiji or Samoa or one of the Pacific islands north of here or Northern Queensland. Package trips around $1000 for 5/6 days.

I wouldnt say everyone can afford it but I havent met many Kiwis who I work with who havent been to Australia on holiday or to visit family (there are 0.5 million kiwis in Oz)

most ordinary kiwis will holiday at home over Dec/Jan in places like the Coromandel in towns like Whangamata or Whitianga where many have holiday homes. Camping is big.

most who go overseas do it in winter to escape the Kiwi winter.
