Gas
« on: March 14, 2010, 08:54:12 pm »
Hi Folks,

I remember reading somewhere on the forum that gas bottles and appliances (skottle, potjie etc) dont fit with NZ standards.  Now I can't find the detail.

Can anyone advise - does the Cadac stay?

Keep well.

Lourens

We brought our small Cadac gas bottle? It was empty though and it was declared.
We didn't bring the big 9kg gas bottle though...

As far as I remember filling was the issue. Some filling stations may not have the necessary adapters and others will not fill due to the bottles not being stamped with a manufacturing date.

I have heard that some people have been lucky to get theirs filled though.

There are adapters for NZ bottles to SA appliances though. Much cheaper than buying new.

I have a gas heater that uses a 9kg bottle. Should I bring the heater along? Will there be an adaptor available for it?

There is an adapter that goes from NZ cylinder to SA Skottel which I think will fit the heater. Does the heater fit directly onto the SA cylinders? If so should be fine.

You guys are on the ball!!!
SA gas bottles stay, all cadac accessories come and all SA gas heaters come aswell. With them I think you just take the SA regulator off and put a NZ regulator on and then it fits the NZ gas bottles, if I now remember correctly. SAKB.

Lourens:
Just a question. I saw somewhere you'd already packed 150-something boxes? Do you know that the removals company will pack it all for you? And in fact, they will repack anything that you have packed because they have to inventory it all for MAF and Customs this side. Plus, MAF & Customs will unpack everything you packed to check it all.

Just a thought. :)

Hi Schalk,

Your gas price for 9kg bottle works out to R187.25@R5.35/NZ$.  That is not realy expensive even in Rand terms, especially if you get it from a garage.
