awesome, thanks Brad!   :)

I think teaching is one of the most underrated professions there is...

How do you find teaching in NZ different to SA?  What are the students like?  Do you have just as much admin to do as in SA?  More.... or less?

BTW, I think we can ALL write better when we're not in a rush!  ;D

main difference is that there is MUCH LESS assessment and more teaching here. In SA I needed about 12 difference marks per term for English. Here I needed 2 assessments this last term for reports.

ALso had much more spare time. Much less admin and government *** like moderation meetings with other schools (we do do it here though, just less).

More laid back, less discipline, You need a sense of humour and you have to learn to laugh. Get rid of the old SA view of discipline.

Lots of support in schools here with some teacher aids and outside agencies helping kids with reading problems etc. Very good.

Am enjoying it though unlike some SA teachers here who are hating every minute. Depends on your personality and the kind of school you came from.

I have of course had a little introduction into the different way of discipline here in the States, and sometimes... just sometimes, wish they still had corporal punishment... some of these kids are really 'vooroppiewa".

Hi Brad77

We're planning on moving to Rotorua in Dec. We did our LSD tour in Aug 06 & thought Roto was 'nice'. We were actually hoping to move to 'Palmy' as it suited our 'platteland' lifestyle and we'd have 2 students. Unfortunately (fortunately???) when you have to rely on a business for sale in a specialised trade, you take what you get! Now we're totally hooked on Roto and our lives are 'hanging' while we wait for our son to complete matric so we can move. Which school do you teach at?
I must assure you I'm quite green at the moment.

I sent you a personal message. Ask anything you want about Roto or NZ.

Welcome to the site Debbie

I'm glad you have brad77 to ask about Rotorua, because I was only there for one day and wouldn't be much help, but I do remember it being really beautiful O0

Hi guys

Sorry I did not reply earlier, but the boss has been here this week and I am up to my eyeballs!

Excited.... hells bells I can't wait! In 14 days time, we will be loading suitcases in car to leave for the airport! The waiting is killing me! :D

All we have to do now, is double check the flash disk - that we have EVERYTHING, pack and go!

Will try catch up again before we leave.

P.S GO SHARKS!!!! although they are playing our potential new "home team"!!! (The Chiefs)
