Auckland Traffic - Help please
« on: April 24, 2010, 06:48:02 am »
Hey. After nearly 2 years in Wellington we have run away from the southerly and are now in Auckland, hunting for a permanent place to stay. We've seen some nice places, but can't quite make up our minds, as we have a few questions. If anyone can help....please? Need to be near the City, but with good access to NZ motorway by car...

Mount Eden road, heading north from just south of Mount Eden park. How bad is traffic from here to get onto the NW motorway in morning traffic, and back down late afternoon? What is the bus service like into the city?

Other option is initial apartment living, where we have a good chance in Hobson Street, but this is right next to Fanshawe road which seems quite busy. How noisy does it get here?

Third option is out towards St Mary's, but access to the NW motorway from here seems like a nightmare - any comments?

Last one is down in St Lukes, which is getting further away from the city. Again, there are buses, but New North Road doesn't appear to have bus lanes, so seems a nightmare.

Any help would be appreciated!!

THanks El! Loving the weather so far - so much warmer! Now you just need to help us with the traffic so that we can make up our minds:-)

You could stay out in East Auckland and use the ferry to and from CBD.  Half Moon Bay to CBD takes about 35 mins and is used by many.  Howick, Bucklands Beach, Half Moon Bay etc etc.

Of course if you need your car for work then this doesn't apply.

Hi Mandy. Thanks for the feedback, but we'd like to avoid the North Shore and the Eastern Bays at all costs. It's really the areas mentioned below that we are interested in, hence the questions on the specific roads... I've spent too much of my life sitting in trains, buses and ferries.
