Hallo 2GatJakkals and welcome.

We all went through those same decisions, doubts, fears and costs but in the end
it worked out and we as a family are very happy here.

Good luck with your emigration dreams and with these big life changing decisions.

keep us posted.

Hi Schalk,

Ek het probeer Google om uit te figure wat beteken "Haere mai ki to mātau wānanga!", maar my kop is te plat om uit te figure wat dit beteken!  Beste waarby ek kan uitkom, is: "Depart from your understanding, meet and discuss"??

Hi All,

I have been reading this forum for some time, and it has broadened my understanding of all things immigration quite a lot!

We've been thinking of immigrating to New Zealand for quite some time now; initially because of concern about escalating crime levels, but for the last two or three years because of political developments as well.  We went over for a holiday to check New Zealand out in August 2009, and we were charmed, to say the least.  It's a wonderful country, and boasts a lifestyle that will suit us perfectly.  But the idea of leaving family and friends behind, and saying good-bye to everything we love here, scares the living daylights out of us.  We are in our forties, and comfortably settled in out careers, kids in high school. The oldest is in matric this year, the youngest in grade 9.

If we leave, it will be a decision we made with our heads, not our hearts.

Anyway, the reason why I call myself 2GatJakkals, is because I am of two minds, weighing up the pro's and con's of leaving or staying...
I think the time might have come for me to change my forum name, because the reason for choosing that name no longer exists.  As of late we are not in two minds about leaving any more, and this forum has a lot to do with that.  Although I have not been writing a lot on the forum, I have been reading regularly, and it has been of great help.  Thanks a lot, you guys!

It has taken us a long time to make up our minds, but now we are set on going.  We are busy getting our EOI ready, for which we hope to have 145 points, if INZ agrees with our calculations.

Well done.

Now the question remains..... ??
What are you going to call yourself??
Otherwise we might not "recognize" you...   ???
Cheese and enjoy.

Man, the only Kiwi animal comparable to a jackal that I can think of is a possum.  But I don't really know what they look like in life.  The only ones I ever saw were squashed flat, in the middle of the road.  Scores of them.

So, on second thoughts I might stick with 2GatJakkals for the time being.  Just let it be known that I don't feel like one anymore!  :)

hahaha.... that's a good one!  So we can call you "bright Eyed Possum" from now on?   :2funny:

Just make sure you get your qualifications assessed BEFORE you do your EOI.  That way when you claim points for your quals, you're not guessing which level it's equivalent to.  I've heard of people's EOI's being denied because they couldn't prove their level.

All the best with your applications, sure sounds like you have enough points to get PR real soon!

I'm lucky: I have a wife who's on the long term skills shortage list: she's an occupational therapist.  But yes, we're busy having her qualification assessed.
