Greetings All
« on: July 12, 2010, 10:13:43 PM »
Hi All,

Not many of you know me on this forum as I have just been a guest reading all the valuable information for thw past few months and have not posted any messages as yet.     My name is Suzette and I currently reside in Joburg.  My family and I (husband, JP and son of 3, Sebastian) have been wanting to move to NZ for the past 2 years. I am a Senior Corporate Travel Consultant and JP is a Project Manager in IT/Telecommunications. We do not have enough points to go the residency route first so need to go the job offer/work permit route first.  We have just recently been on our LSD trip around the North Island and been for a few interviews.  Since our return we have had positive response however most interviewers are only prepared to assist us when we are back in NZ.  JP has decided to make the move to NZ end September, cowboy style and then we hope to follow once he received a job offer.  Have our hearts set on Auckland for now.

My reason for the introduction is to touch base and to find out your current opinions on the job market and if cowboy style is recommended right now? and also if you are familiar with a recruitment company called SPNZ?  They are one of the few that charge a fee for their service?  Have any of you used them and have any of you been placed by them?  If anyone out there has any contacts in our industries, please be so kind to let me know.

I look forward to chatting further.......

Cheers for now.

:welcome: to the family suzette du bois.  :gl: with your plans.
Concerning your questions about  :cowboy: style....
That is the same as asking how long is a piece of string...
If you know what I mean, but....
I think with your husband the piece of string is about "2 months long"....  ;D
Just because he is a Project Manager in IT/Telecommunications I think he might just be able to pull that rabbit out of the hat, BUT, DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT!!! It might be more difficult than I suspect and then you are going to hold it against me... which is NOT what I want.
So I have to say to you what we always say to everybody that enquires about  :cowboy: style.... IT IS A VERY BIG GAMBLE.

:gl: with everything!  Such a catch-22 most of us are in.  We decided not to go cowboy, but PR first and we'll tackle the rest from there.

Cowboy Style is like gambling.  When you win, you win big, but when you lose, you lose big.  Need to have a solid backup plan if things don't work for you.  We went cowboy style first time and lost big.  We went cowboy style second time and won big.  But second time around we had more brains, more funds, more work experience and a solid backup plan if it all went pear shaped.

Good luck. Just do your homework.

Welcome Suzette!

Hope you make a few good friends on here that will be able to remain friends on the other side, that's what this site is mostly aimed at!  :)

Just to be totally nosey, how many points do you have?  I thought that with IT, you'd already have some good points, as it's on the shortage list?  But then, things may have changed since we came over 3 yrs ago.   If you have even a mere 100 points (which is the lowest to qualify for entering your EOI), I'd suggest you try that anyway. You never know!
