Hier Kom die Bokke !!
« on: July 15, 2010, 08:37:06 am »
We had distant family visiting this week from Invercargill.  We took them to the Nelson fleamarket on Saturday, the day of the big Springbok / All Black game in Eden Park.  We all decided to dress up in our Bokke shirts, including my two girls aged 8 and 9 1/2 .  And man, did we make an entrance.  There we were, 8 of us, in T-shirts, a cap and scarf.  We walked proud.  There was a lot of good ribaldry by the All Black supporters, and one Maori busker even sang the following as we approached  "here come the South Africans, watch out for their poisoned porridge ".  All sung in jest.  There were a few quiet Saffers who came up to us and whispered that they were rooting for the Bokke.  Wherever we went afterwards, Countdown, the video store (for the youngsters who get bored after the Hakka ), All Black Supporters came up to us and discussed the game to come.  It was really wonderful and not one bad or ugly comment.

Viva Bokke, Viva All Blacks, Viva New Zealand.

We actually support both the Bokke and the All Blacks, which is a lot of fun as either of our team wins.  We are not being fence sitters, we have loved the AB for years, and have a lot of respect and love for both teams.  We wore our black thermal long sleeve vests underneath, as our support for the AB.   It will be fun on Saturday, as we are watching at our landlords house, so there will be two camps.

After last SAturdays loss, we sent over a bottle of SA wine and a protea (have a huge protea bush growing outside our window ) .

hi

is this the link you are talking about?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVD_gM1ybTo

How did you find it? Thats my school!! The boys post videos on Youtube.

Perhaps I should put the video in context. Every year in Term 1 we teach the new 3rd formers the school haka and then we have a massive interhouse haka competition on the school fields.  We have 6 houses and they compete in a round robin, semi final and then a final winner. They face off against each other. They start the haka at different times so its a competition of being louder and more agressive. We have 2200 boys so about 350 or so boys per house. It is very much a highlight of the school year and LOTS of parents come to watch as well TV news and local newspapers sometimes.

And then right at the end of the competition the whole school - all the houses together - do the haka. It is quite an emotional affair. Very very special.

Here is my video of the whole school haka of 2010.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pm6W97AwB7c

A normal 1st XV rugby game they team does the haka for the opposing team. Some teams do their school haka back, some schools dont have a school haka.
