Hi, we are in Zim and looking at the possibility of going to NZ - is there anyone reading this who has left or is leaving from here?

I recall somebody being from Zim, but currently in SA. Cannot remember who...oops!

But please do tell us more about life in Zim! I can only imagine it must be rather hard right now?

Thanks everyone - I couldn't get back on the site until now - no electricity for over 24 hours! This is unfortunately par for the course here these days - no power, no water.

We have stayed here because we kept thinking it can't get any worse and then it does!! But we have now decided enough is enough.

I have found out so much stuff from this site already, its great.

I have a Brit passport but Wayne has a Zim one which makes things a bit more difficult, as well as the fact that getting anything out of Zim is a problem but we are used to making a plan so we will get there!

Thanks for the info. Where do I find out about the special category for Zimbabweans - I have seen something about Zimbabweans already in NZ but not about anyone wanting to go there now.

I am lucky that I earn forex here so we are saving up as much as possible at the moment. What we are thinking at the moment is that I will go there first - its easy with my Brit passport - and see whats what. If it seems ok then my hubby will come later. That means he gets to sort everything out here like selling stuff etc which is fine by me!!

What do you think?

Wendy, do you have qualifications... degree.... experience...

You could go over, get a job offer, apply for workpermit (and PR too), and you include your hubby on the applications, he gets a work permit too! Then he follows you over. Very doable indeed!

Is it really that easy?! How long would it take between me getting a work permit and him being able to come. He can't just come as a visitor without a visa cos of his Zim passport and we don't have a NZ embassy here so it means doing everything through SA.

I am a qualified radiographer but haven't practised for years. Since then I have been doing hospital admin - everything from reception to computerising the accounting system! Wayne is an electronic instrument technician but he has been out of the factories for a while and into retail management.

I sent our cvs to a number of employment agencies in NZ but only got a reply from one who said he could easily find us jobs if we were there and he would like to represent us. I don't believe all I'm told but it sounds promising. He also referred me to an immigraton consultant who asked me about 60 questions to assess whether she thought we would get in but I haven't heard back from her yet! This was all before I found this forum.

Hi Wendy

I have looked at the Zim Special Residence Policy, but unfortunately you guys don't qualify. It is only for those who had arrived in NZ before 23 Sept 2004, have no ties with another country (eg. no Brit passport) and don't qualify under any other policy, eg. Skilled Migrant.

So your quickest way is to find a job in NZ.
