:( Have not heard anything more from the NZ side and it's a week today since the interview....I believe things move slowly in NZ wrt job offers sometimes, but this is awful for us!

I know this topic might be a little old for some but please allow me to give my opinion on this question.

Since I have been considering NZ as a destination for a long time already i have been watching news and events in NZ with interest. My wife was shaken by the quake and some safety questions were discussed. But even after all that I am even more keen to come over. O0 :gl:

I am in the maintenance and construction industry with 22 years experience and I am very keen to know how I can do some good in helping to rebuild C-Church in NZ. I would be very interested to know where and how I can come and help. :help:   Surely it will take several years to finish all the work.

as one of the previous posters said. Disaster can happen any day and anywhere but focusing on what could be has no benifit. Rather focus on what can be done right now. 8)

Mosescapetown - I'm sure you will have no problem getting a position within the construction industry in Chch. They are looking for qualified people.  I suggest you just browse the job sites - there are bound to be plenty available positions.
We still feel that we should start in Chch & see how it goes.. reason being that most of our closest friends in NZ are in chch & all our market research was based on Chch.  If we feel that its not working out for us... nothing stops us from moving further north.
I think for Chch the worst is over - i.e. the big ones.. they will continue to have aftershocks for years to come.... well - having said that - i sincerely hope the worst is over  ::)

I am no earthquake specialist but I think for a city that is so close to a natural fault its always gonna be risky times... :-\

to be honest I still cannot believe the Americans build San Francisco.. luckily C-Church is not entirely the same scenario... :-\

As or my personal decision to look into C-Church .. I have always wanted to make a difference by helping where there is a real need by using all the skills I have been blessed with over the last 20 years or so... And the bonus for me is that I can go do this in a country that I really like and respect.  O0

thanx for the advice on the job market in C-Church.. I will check it out ASAP..  :-*
