Best immitation recipes
« on: September 16, 2010, 08:55:40 am »
If you are missing your favourite dish from SA and are trying to recreate it so it tastes the same, start a topic with your best recipe so the rest of us that are on the same mission can put our heads together to help perfect it.
eg. KFC fried chicken, Wimpy's famous relish or Spur's secret sauce.

We will then paste the best ones in this topic

There is like jafa77 said KFC in NZ, but like all KFC's over the world, I suspect...  ::) , they are oily and not all together nice anymore. Not the same as what it was a couple of years ago. To me, somewhere along the line they changed their way of making KFC. That's just the way I see it. Cheers, SAKB

Don't worry, I know EXACTLY what you mean.
I used to stay AND work in Lenazia, just outside of JHB for about 6 months. Lenazia as everybody know is an "Indian" town. You can buy ANYTHING there, except any pork or pork products. The first opportunity I got when I "came out" was to have a Russian and then bacon. So yes, I know what you mean.
Being in NZ now, I still miss my Russians. Haven't found the real deal yet...  :-\

I could have sworn that someone did post a KFC type recipe here.  Where is it ?  I was telling DH about it when his attempt one night to do a buttermilk and cornflake baked chicken failed dismally. You just have to deep fry.  Baking KFC is for sissies  :2funny:

Magusta:  We LIVE on the food channel :)

I've found that http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/ is a really good sire (searches by ingredient/chef/programme).  There is another that I have bookmarked on my home laptop but I cannot remember now for the life of me what it is.  Will post it up tonight...

Cheers
Susan
