Hi Adele, yes you can get nails done here, but having been in the USA myself, and used to do my nails there, I'll just warn you: Where you spent on average $25 for a full set of nails, or $17 for touch ups, here you spend easily $45 for a full set (or more), and I don't know what they charge for touch ups (fill ins).  All I know is that I have not done my nails since coming to NZ, because I guess I'm just not vain enough to spend THAT much on nails.

Same goes for hair.  There are 3 salons here in the same strip-mall and they offer different prices.  The one that costs the most also does the best hair, admittedly.  That's $40 for a cut and style.  The other one charges $25 for a cut, but I wasn't as impressed with their service - or should I say, I didn't feel that stunning walking out of there.  So I guess it's time to haul out $40 again for a decent hairstyle, but I'm also wondering about perhaps doing a spiral perm, and I'm sure that's gonna cost the earth.  sigh...

We have a huge SA community here in Gulf Harbour and my next-door neighbour is a Saffer who has now introduced me to her circle of friends, one of whom is a hairdresser. She just called me after school and told me that the hairdresser was coming round to her house to cut her kids' hair and I should come around if I wanted a cut. So I joined the queue next-door with a glass of wine in hand and got a great cut for $25 along with great company!

It has been just so amazing to move in next-door to the most amazing person. She is just one of those bubbly, helpful, friendly people that would do anything for anyone. I'm not very good at making friends - I'm very shy - but she has introduced me to her huge circle of friends and we get together regularly. Every Thursday it's coffee-group, every person has a turn to have it at their place - you must just be able to understand Afrikaans. There's usually lots of loud talking, and maybe someone feeling homesick and having a good cry! And people "smousing" stuff of course. It has helped so much to settle in here - they're my family away from SA. And I can get a good haircut!

Eish, I haven't been that desperate for a hair cut yet...  ::)
The "last time" that I needed a hair cut I just gave the clippers to my two boys and said:"Now you cut my hair the same way I cut your hair"   :o   , they thought I went nuts...  :2funny:  . Mamma just had to "finish up" the job after they thought it was all done.   :2funny:
Since then I can't wait for summer...  :2funny:  :2funny:
Enjoy, SAKB

Well if you know me I don't "normally" have a "borselkop", so when I gave them the clippers they were like "deer in the headlights"   and I had to assure them this is ok, if they want...  :2funny:
But they enjoyed it.
