Hi Guys Trying to sneak in quietly
« on: November 12, 2010, 12:31:10 PM »
Hi everyone
This forum has become a valuable source of info and confirmed what I am doing is the right thing. I want this way of life or me and my family and I have one opportunity to pull it off. I turn 55 in July 2011 and by then I must have a job offer to allow some time for the paperwork to go through. At this stage of your life when you are settled and in a comfort zone it is a huge risk and challenge to make the move, but having read all your stories, has confirmed that there is no turning back.

I will be flying to  NZ in Feb 2011 to start the job hunt.(Mechanical Engineer) Been fine tuning the CV with the help of Toni (SPNZ) . Accommodation tentatively booked at Soft Landings.Rosemary and the boys Ross (11) and Brian (16) will stay in SA until I get a job and work permitt. The house has been on the market for over a year but that can't stop the progress. Might have to give it away eventually as it is not practical to rent it out.

Its going to be a bumpy ride but failure is not an option. Thanks again for the wealth of information available and the inspiration that I have found in this forum.
PS still can't get the smileys right even after reading the Help section. I might be old but!!!!

:welcome:  You definitely are doing the right thing for your family.  Don't worry about the emoticons, I still can't work out how to downsize photos and place them.

No sneaking allowed!  ;D

 :bigwelcome:

And all the best for finding a job!  Have you been looking online so long?  And have you checked what your points are on the EOI system?  Don't limit yourself to Auckland, although that is where most of things are happening.  You never know, but you may just find something in another area, which will give you an extra 10 points!

:welcome:  and agree 100% about not limiting yourself to Auckland.  We also thought we'd be in Auckland, but job offer came through for Wellington and so now we can claim an extra 10 points   And at the end of the day, the whole point is to get PR, so do what you need to achieve this IMHO.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I appreciate the time you guys take to reply and comment on all the posts. Its amazing you can predict who is going to make the effort.

Nolan you out did yourself again. Packed up laughing when I saw your reply. Thanks.

SAKB, I have 5 months till I turn 55 then I still have the complete year that I am 55, application must be in before I turn 56. I am hoping under the present conditions to get work within 3 months.

I have been applying on line to numerous vacancies, but normally only receive a courteous reply. The Kiwis want to see you in person hence the decision to be there in Feb next year. I have been evaluated for the EOI and come out on 85 point, so therefore must secure a job offer to boost me to 135. SPNZ has done a great job with my CV and will assist with the marketing just before I arrive.

I will definitely not limit myself to Auckland only and would go south as far as Christchurch. There have been some great jobs advertised in Invercargill, but I don't think a warm blooded Safer will survive there!!

Thanks again for the welcome, I will keep you posted.

Just a "quick" question??
Did you "predict" who was going to reply even before "they" did??  ???
Wow!! We need to talk Mate.  :2funny:  :2funny:  :2funny: I need a couple of "questions" answered..  :2funny:
