hello from jhb!
« on: May 06, 2007, 09:28:44 AM »
hi everyone

my wife and five year old daughter will be coming over to either tauranga or whangarei early next year. we have started our pr. using protea pacific as our agent.
i feel very lucky scoring 140 points as a fitter and turner in demand. i have been researching for five months now and am very pleased to have found this site and all the info the lovely people are willing to share----------thanks. one thing i am still unsure about is what the demand for my trade is in these two cities? would i find work and be able to settle in one of the two as i am not really keen on auckland----not much of a big city person!   and what the average wage is for tradesmen like myself?? will i survive????

thankyou all for being so helpful

Hi there
not sure how relevant this is, but a friend of mine is a carpenter in Tauranga - he is earning in the early 40's - maybe 42k a year?  They love it there - it's a bit of a holiday destination with great weather.  They've had quite a boom (a bit like Jeffreys and other undiscovered coastal towns that suddenly explode) so he found a job easily as Tauranga is building like mad.  Houses are pretty pricey, though.  They ended up about 30min outside of T in a small town where houses were still relatively affordable.

Howzit Francois, glad you found us.  O0

Look HERE for links to salary surveys and job sites that you can search to check salary and availability in T and W.

Seems like we will be leaving early March next year, maybe we on the same plane
