Hi guys
just to let the people that are thinking of getting a bank account in NZ before hand a response, yes it can be done , just go to their website and apply for a account, we applied, got some emails from them and a phone call, and yes we got it, we got a migrant package that doesn't charge any bank fees for the first 6 months woo hoo and we can deposit funds into it

You can try any of the bigger bank here in NZ - they all open accounts while you're in SA

Westpac's site for migrants. All the other banks will have a similar facility

The one thing you need to know about opening an account while offshore from NZ is that while they will accept deposits (and these may be limited) the banks will not allow you to withdraw funds until they have verified that you exist. This is to comply with NZ anti money laundering laws.
