Need a little help plz
« on: February 25, 2011, 10:53:36 AM »
Hi there every1 new to the forum I am 30y old my wife 25 we have 2 kids son aged 5 and baby girl 1 . Me and my wife have spoken of leaving SA for NZ for a few years because of some violent crimes we had but never took the step . But after last weekend we made up our minds once again bieng victims of crime i dont want to go into detail about what happened but all i can say is a robber putting a gun against my baby girls head on her 1st bday party in broad daylight at 2:00 on a sat afternoon was the last draw we fear for our lives everyday after this event and cant go on like this anymore . Alot of people ask us what about the eartqauke that just happened imo i would rather go out from a natural disaster in any other country  than from another person killing me over a cellphone or something silly.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      I just want to know the best steps to follow finding work in NZ im a bit confused on some jobfinder websites u cant apply for a job if u dont have a workvisa or work legally in that country and then i read on other u cant get a workvisa if u dont have a job offer so what is best to do go to NZ for holiday then look for work and apply for workvisa or must i just go to the NZ embassy and find out from them how it works . I am a qualified meat technician (Butcher) in the making of cold meats and sausages and have a cirtificate from Freddy Hirch S.A Meat school with 10 years experience my wife is a qaulified bookkeeper with 5 years experience Plz any advice would be helpful . I will keep reading trough the rest of the forum wich has been already very helpful to us thx

Hi And welcome to the forum, try the www.trademe.co.nz website for jobs, you have to have a work permit to be able to work and live in NZ, but there are ways to get to that status, I see your Wife is a accountant, she should be able to secure a job fairly easy, just have a look at all the jobs on the site, Butcher work I am not sure about as it is a line in which I am not familiar with, maybe someone else on the forum can answer that one, best place to look is on the forum under PR and WP, you will find loads and loads of info there

Good luck

Hi, there is no easy answer on how to find a job, however it's more easier to find work if you are here as many employers do not want to wait for people to come over and not been able to see them face to face. Also they go through a lot of trouble and then at the last moment the people decide not to come over.

We found that 80% of work don't get advertised and most get employment through word of mouth or just people walking in to a business with their CV. It's very important for the Kiwi's to meet face to face. Also remember that they feel frightened by people with to many skills, so it's important not to come across pushy, aggressive, know it all and they don't want to be told how to do things. so be very calm and considerate almost with an attitude of "yes sir no sir three bags full sir" they make a lot of reference to "a can do attitude"

We had a couple here more than a year a go and they where complaining of not getting work, she was the Major of a City (would be unfair to say where)and had a lot of qualifications, the problem was that she mentioned all her qualifications and skills in her CV even for the jobs that required none. So if you apply for a work only put in your CV whats relevant to the work you apply for and of course what skills you have that will enhance your chances.

I know that this method of jumping on the first plane is not always easy as it requires a lot of money and commitment. There are several people that just get on a plane and come over with good results. There are three different ways to get residency and that would be to get a job and apply for residency or work to residency and the third would be to apply for residency before you come over however the third option you need to have the skills and qualification that they are having a shortage off.

The first two options have the risk of not working out, The first reason would be that if there is a rescission the NZ gov has to provide for it's own people with jobs over emigrants and / or when you decide to apply for residency using the work to residency you have to earn more than a certain amount of money.

Before you do think of getting on a plane you need to do a bit of home work. Get a police clearance for you and your wife also get unabridged birth and marriage certificates.  With out this its a lot harder when you are here, also going to need this when you apply for residancy.

Let me tell you it's very hard on the woman and most people only start to feel a belonging after about two years.

Eleanor and I have done all our paper work ourselves and it worked out fine with no problems, We did not see the need to use a consultant to fill out our papers for us (they can't find you work and they can't influence the Government, so why pay them that huge fee? yes they may know the system better than you that's about all)

O boy are we in the same situation as you. Unfortunately trademe doesn't allow you to 'join' if you live in SA so that's not much help is it?!?!
So many people just pack up and go but with kids to support it is a frightning thought isn't it.
Good luck

Hi Banna
I've gone through the research already re visa options and I consulted with an immigration attorney based in Chch (at a fee of course) and with my qualifications which is 3 year Marketing Management & hubby who is a qualified cycling coach - our chances of going via EOI on points was too risky in that we won't get enough points... so after an hour long session - his advise was for us to go via LTBV (long term business visa) - start your own business..... (not sure I can give you any further advise here or I might be in big trouble with Big Brother Nolan)

Thanx so much cyclewife, just not sure if opening own business is too much of a risk as is buying an established business but it would be the only way for us to get into NZ too.  We really do have to get out of SA. So are you considering opening your own business? Not sure if Nolan would mind this question but can my hubby open the business on his name alone and the kids and I just pickle along?

Pleasure - Yes - we are planning on running our own business there - its the only way we can do it. Both hubby & I have had our own businesses for a number of years.
We are applying with my husband as main applicant & yes myself & DS go along on as per LTBV... I would then be in a position to apply for WP & seek employment.

is it of utmost importance to have an unabridged birth certificate for my kids. i lost one of them and only have bridged for my one son.

have you decided what business you gonna open and where. we are contemplating buying an existing bar or something.how much extra money do they expect you to have after buying a business to prove you can support your family or does it differ if you buy an excisting business? soooo many questions hey, sorry.

another question(i should change my name to "Question"), when are you planning on goin to nz, we are planning our trip in the next few days.....

Hey Question  :2funny: aka Banna
Unabridged a MUST - hubby's business - cycling coach & indoor training studio
Was in NZ for a month during July/Aug 2010 - toured upper part of SI (from Chch) & went up the NI as far as Keri Keri & back again
When moving to NZ...who knows - as & when things pan out & if its meant to be.
Suggest you apply for unabridged before you go anywhere - cause it takes forever - and check expiry dates in passports - if needed apply NOW

I've attached a guide for you - might give you more insight into LTBV (dont think i'm breaking any rules here - its directly from INZ)
