Hey all - just thought i'd introduce myself:
I'm a high school teacher here in SA - married with 3 small boys.
Have a sister in NZ - she moved there 3 years ago and is LOVING it.  My husband and i have been toying with the idea of leaving SA for just over 2 years, but have finally decided it's the way to go!
We're still young - 30 & 32, and hope to get over based on my skilled migrant application.
We've just applied for passports and unabridged bc's - so waiting to complete the EOI asap.
Bit stressed about it all - especially the finances to apply, selling up my hubby's small business, selling the house, etc.  Just really hoping we'll be able to do it all relatively smoothly.  But... whatever... here we go!!! :)

Hi

please also get a Police clearance for you and your hubby and make sure you get unabridged marriage certificates.  The police clearance might take a wile but once you have it it's easy to get a reissue if the 6 months has laps.

good luck and see you soon

Lals - I hope you like paperwork and admin, you've got quite a bit of it ahead... But if you take it seriously and think carefully you can save yourself lots of time and stress. Once you receive a valuable document, like an "unabridged" anything or a "certified" anything make copies of them (plenty) and have them all certified by a commissioner of oaths (and not an SA police officer - that is considered worthless). Then scan the original and scan the certified copy and keep them both on a portable hard drive. Just imagine you are here (in a few months time!?!) and you need to get a copy of something official - how do you suppose anyone in NZ will be able to have a sensible discussion with Home Affairs in Pretoria when it can't even happen face-to-face over the counter!? So the plan is to make yourself administratively independent. Get a FAT passport (pay a little extra) so that you can travel plenty without having to get replacement documents. The time my wife and I invested in getting our paperwork organised has paid off many times. Good luck! It is DEFINITELY worth it.
