Crime in NZ
« on: April 15, 2011, 06:36:13 am »
Hi all

I read something very interesting today about crime in NZ compared to SA.

In 2010, there were 46 murders in NZ. In 6 months in SA, there were 16000+ !

Even if the numbers for SA's population are adjusted (divided by 10 to match NZ population) , the "score" would be NZ 46, SA 3300 ! Also, NZ murders are 80% committed by family/people known to the victim, while SA it is mostly linked to violent crime.

Child sexual assault  in NZ is minimal compared to SA, even with "equal" population numbers, and again, is mostly done by family/people known to the victim. This is a BIG reason why we came to NZ - came into contact with too many kids who had been messed with in SA - made me paranoid and hyper-vigilant and a mother from hell.   Score :  NZ 96, SA 5712 !

Crime in NZ dropped almost 6%, SA police refused to supply numbers....

 :smitten: NZ !!!
