I'm affraid that's true ;)

My hubby's best customer, just bought an M3 schnitzer evo, with all the trimmings. My hubby had to test drive it and after he agreed to buy it, he had to fix a few small problems, but he says that car is deadly fast :heeha:
This customer is a great old guy that is going through his 3rd mid life crisis (his words), he also has a mini race car that hubby fixes O0
We told him to watch out for the boy racers in Auckland.......take on an old man O0

We are looking for a cheap to buy and very cheap to maintain car.  One of the car dealers told us to stay away from anything that is even slightly different or unusual, as those are typically ridiculously expensive to service.

VW is not big here and a Golf can cost a small fortune.  I almost think that BMW might be a more expensive option as well - there aren't a lot of luxury cars so the ones that there are stand out.  I haven't seen a BMW in Palmy yet, so I imagine the nearest dealer is probably in Wellington.

We're now looking at a little Toyota or similar, as they seem to be the cheapest to maintain.

Do they have Toyota Conquest?  I used to like that...

Pity about the german cars... we tend to be big VW/Audi fans.  :-\

Another tidbit - insurance costs are as follows:
Hyundai Elantra 2003 (cost $9000) - $289 p.a.
$30 000 household contents - $275 p.a.
130 sq m house - $333 p.a.

Total $897 p.a. or $75 p.m.

Seeing broker tomorrow - will post life/medical after

2 adults (33 and 38 y.o. respectively), both smokers and a 4-yr old boy.  Costs as follows:
Life cover (300k on each adult) $831 p.a. (for both)
Income protection (75% of 63k) $669 p.a.
Medical (specialist and hospital cover; $300 excess) $1290 p.a.

Medical is very confusing - one couple we met went without for a year then decided it best to join, but they also know a doctor who cancelled his medical as he said he'd get help quicker through state than private.  So the jury's till out on that one.

We're seeing another broker this afternoon, so will see if there's a difference in quoted price.

As far as house is concerned, costs associated with purchase are as follows:
Attorney $950
Rates & taxes (for 6-week period) $194
Regional council fee (for 6-week period) $23

The last 2 are calculated from beginning July to end June, so the seller gets a refund and the purchaser pays up for the remainder of the year.

Hi Rhodan,

I should arrive in the middle of October. My wife will only come in December. She must first give birth in end of November. When will you go?

your budget seems pretty close to mine (around $1000/week), let's see what those in NZ say...
