Thank you
« on: May 24, 2011, 07:07:36 PM »
To everyone on this site, I'd really like to say thanks!!!

Its been a long road for us to this point and we really didn't have money to waste.  I've been trawling this site (and some others too) looking for answers to many, many questions. This site has offered many answers to many questions. Apart from the fact that New Zealand is a beautiful country, one of the many reasons why we chose it above any other country is the people - people like you.  Willing to help, willing to go the extra mile, people with morals, people who care about others, people who wouldn't turn away if they saw another human being in distress...

One forgets how much these things mean.  Living in South Africa has taught me a lot about people and let me tell you there are a lot of people here that just turn a blind eye - there is poverty that is unspeakable here, but the worst is the horrific brutal crime.  This is the main reason for our move - we have become accustomed to living in a stressful state sleeping with a gun beside our bed - its horrible and one day we'll be able to sleep peacefully.

The only thing that really gets me is leaving my family behind...but we'll try to get them to New Zealand at all costs.  We don't have a family of our own yet, but when we do, we'd like our children to have a fair chance at employment and opportunities based on their abilities and not their skin colour and we'd like them to live to that age!  We'd like them to grow up without hang-ups and emotional and mental issues that so many of us have - you know, NORMAL life.

I thank God for this opportunity that He presented to us, to be able to emigrate and for providing the means to do this - and for leading us to New Zealand specifically.

To all you wonderful people, thank you so much for all your help - I'm sure there's going to be much more questions coming.  It would be great to meet some of you!!

Lots of love and keep being who you are
Letitia

Hey Letitia! Fantastic post, yes, this forum is a God send, as when things seem so tough, our forum family is just 'fingers away' ;) You, like a lot of us, will make some close personal mates on the forum, and that is so important, especially if you come over
and do not have any family members here. Some are lucky to have either a brother or sister, cousin here, but for the most of us
it is a lot harder. These forums whether UK, OZ, Canada or NZ are extremely important, as we ALL need to feel we still have
our history around us, come on...what do the Kiwi's know about chappies, melrose, frisco and wors.... ;D Leaving our home, our roots, is one of the most traumatic things anyone can do.... :'( and I still have bouts of homesickness....after 2.5 years. But like you say, the pleasure of living in a Country where you do not have to look over your shoulder every time you walk out the door, or stop at traffic lights, or having to sleep with a gun near your bed... sure makes up for all the heartache!

Here's wishing you loads of  and everything of the very best for the future!

Great post Letitia. All the best with your move to NZ. Leaving the family behind is probably the toughest thing you can do. But eventually all of you will become use to it, skype is absolutely wonderful – I have no idea how people managed to emigrate in the 80’s and early 90’s. Kudus to all of them...
